6. Improved inspection and micrometrology of embedded structures in multi-layered ceramics : Development of optical coherence tomographic methods and tools
Sammanfattning : Roll-to-roll manufacturing of micro components based on advanced printing, structuring and lamination of ceramic tapes is rapidly progressing. This large-scale and cost-effective manufacturing process of ceramic micro devices is however prone to hide defects within the visually opaque tape stacks. LÄS MER
7. Multilayer neutron optics based on isotope-enriched 11B4C
Sammanfattning : The work in this thesis covers the design, growth and characterisation of neutron multilayers. The achieved reflectivity performance of a neutron multilayer depends on the achieved optical contrast between the layers as well as the achieved interface width between the layers. LÄS MER
8. Compact Soft X-Ray Microscopy: Image Processing and Instrumentation
Sammanfattning : Soft x-ray microscopy is a powerful technique for natural-contrast, high-resolution imaging of organic materials. This Thesis describes new instrumentational and new image-processing methods to improve the image quality of the compact x-ray microscope at the Biomedical & X-Ray Physics division at KTH. LÄS MER
9. Enhanced Polarizing Neutron Optics with 11B4C Incorporation : SLD Tunability, Interface Refinement, and Elimination of Magnetic Coercivity
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores novel strategies for improving Fe-based polarizing neutron optics, a critical part for improving neutron scattering methods to study materials science, physics, biology, medicine, chemistry and cultural heritage. Polarization analysis is important in uncovering data on magnetic domains, protein structures, molecular composition and orientation in biological systems, and ion-diffusion mechanisms that would otherwise be inaccessible. 10. Electron transport properties of graphene and graphene field-effect devices studied experimentally
Sammanfattning : This thesis contains experimental studies on electronic transport properties of graphene with the Aharonov-Bohm (AB) effect, thermopower (TEP) measurements, dual-gated graphene field effect devices, and quantum Hall effect (QHE). Firstly, in an effort to enhance the AB effect in graphene, we place superconducting-metal (aluminium) or normal-metal (gold) mirrors on the graphene rings. LÄS MER
