21. Nitride Thin Films for Thermoelectric Applications : Synthesis, Characterization and Theoretical Predictions
Sammanfattning : Thermoelectrics is the reversible process which transforms a temperature gradient across a material into an external voltage through a phenomenon known as the Seebeck effect. This has resulted in niche applications such as solid-state cooling for electronic and optoelectronic devices which exclude the need for a coolant or any moving parts and long-lasting, maintenance-free radioisotope thermoelectric generators used for deep-space exploration. 22. Laser cutting and piercing: Experimental and theoretical investigation
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns experimental investigations of laser cutting and piercing, with theoretical and practical discussions of the results. The thesis is made up of an introduction to laser cutting and six scientific Papers. LÄS MER
23. New Dimensions of Moving Bed Biofilm Carriers : Influence of biofilm thickness and control possibilities
Sammanfattning : The moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) is a biological wastewater treatment process in which microorganisms grow as biofilms on suspended carriers. Conventionally, MBBRs are mainly designed and optimized based on the carrier surface area, neglecting the dynamic relationship between carrier design, reactor operation and biofilm characteristics, such as biofilm thickness and the composition of the microbial community. 24. Vibrations induced by surface roughness in nonlinear rolling contacts
Sammanfattning : For efficient transportation in either trains, busses or passenger cars, rolling elements such as wheels, tyres, bearings and transmission elements are fundamental. The energy efficiency and the generation of noise and vibrations in rolling contacts depend on the surface roughness of contacting bodies. LÄS MER
25. Transient elastohydrodynamic lubrication : Effects of geometry, surface roughness, temperature, and plastic deformation
Sammanfattning : The urgent need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in combination with an increased use of sustainable energy resources have led to immense efforts on improving energy efficiency of mechanical systems. Consequently, modern machine elements are typically lubricated with low viscosity oils and designed to endure an increasingly high power density. LÄS MER
