  1. 1. Neural Control of Movement : Motor Neuron Subtypes, Proprioception and Recurrent Inhibition

    Författare :Anders Enjin; Klas Kullander; Samuel L. Pfaff; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; motor neuron; proprioception; recurrent inhibition; molecular marker; Ia afferent; development; transgenic mice; Renshaw cell; Neurobiology; Neurobiologi; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Movement is central for life, and all animals depend on accurate regulation of movement for purposeful behavior. There is great diversity of movements, ranging between simple and vital breathing movements to minute and subtle movements of the face used to communicate emotions. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Metabolomics studies of ALS : a multivariate search for clues about a devastating disease

    Författare :Anna Wuolikainen; Peter M Andersen; Henrik Antti; Stefan L Marklund; Thomas Moritz; Thomas Hankemeier; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis ALS ; motor neuron disease; Lou Gehrig’s disease; human disease; CSF; biomarkers; metabolomics; metabonomics; chemometrics; design of experiments; multivariate analysis.; Neurology; Neurologi; Neurology; neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Charcot’s disease, motor neuron disease (MND) and Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a deadly, adult-onset neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive loss of upper and lower motor neurons, resulting in evolving paresis of the linked muscles. ALS is defined by classical features of the disease, but may present as a wide spectrum of phenotypes. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Experiences of pain and associations between pain, disease severity and individual quality of life in people with motor neuron diseases

    Författare :Ylva Åkerblom; Pernilla Åsenlöf; Lena Zetterberg; Dag Nyholm; Lena von Koch; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; motor neuron disease; pain; quality of life; individual quality of life; qualitative content analysis; pain severity; disease severity;

    Sammanfattning : Many people with the incurable and often times fatal motor neuron diseases have pain, but there is lack of knowledge about people’s experiences of living with pain. Further, the correlation between pain and their quality of life is not well understood, and previous studies have not used individual quality of life, namely that people with their own words express what quality of life is. 4. 4. Studies on metals in motor neuron disease

    Författare :Per M Roos; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : A slow but steady increase in neurodegenerative disorders has been noted in recent decades. Degenerations in the nervous system are found in Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and motor neuron diseases. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is the most common of the motor neuron diseases. LÄS MER

  5. 5. On the occurrence and possible causes of motor neuron disease in Sweden

    Författare :Lars-Gunnar Gunnarsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Epidemiology; amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; incidence; prevalence; mortality; cluster; Iisk factors; occupation; environment; agricultural work; electrical work; welding; solvents; heredity; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : A series of investigations have been performed to study secular trends of motor neuron disease (MND) morbidity and mortality in Sweden, to identify time and/or space clusters, if any, and to uncover risk factors. The occurrence of the disease was estimated from incidence, prevalence and mortality rates, and the strength of various determinants was evaluated by means of the case-control approach, using population controls.
