1. Hand grip strength and postural control among individuals with and without Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease : Epidemiological and motion laboratory studies
Sammanfattning : BackgroundChronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is estimated to affect approximately 8%–10% of all adults. The disease is considered to be a heterogenic syndrome with systemic effects, in which comorbidities including cardiovascular diseases, muscle dysfunction and fatigue are common. LÄS MER
2. Cervical influence on dizziness and orientation
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of the work was to examine the influence of cervical biomechanical conditions on movement performance, to study musculoskeletal findings accompanying possible cervicogenic dizziness and to evaluate the influence of cervical proprioception on head orientation. Two devices, measuring cervical range of motion, were compared: Myrin, an inclinometer/compass method and Zebris®, a 3-dimensional ultrasound movement analyser. LÄS MER
3. Determinant Factors for Memory Performance in Human Aging: A Study of Environmental, Person-Based, and Non-Cognitive Predictors Contributing to Memory Performance in old Adults
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to examine the importance of environmental, non-cognitive, and person-based variables for memory performance in old adults. Study I was conducted in cooperation with the Gerontology Research Centre and the Department of Psychology in Lund. LÄS MER
4. Imbalance and fractures in the elderly Effects of decreased vibration sensation and vestibular asymmetry
Sammanfattning : Control of the upright stance and locomotion is a complicated process of muscular activity. The muscular activity is dependant on afferent information from the different sensory organs and interpretation in the central nervous system. Age-related degenerative changes exist in all the domains concerned with control of posture. LÄS MER
5. Fractures of the Distal Radius - Incidence, treatment and outcome
Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT Fractures of the distal radius are common injuries that may cause persistent disability and pain. This thesis prospectively investigates the incidence and characteristics of distal radius fractures, the relationship between fracture malunion and disability and the natural course of patient-reported outcome after fracture in a well-defined population in Northeastern Scania, Sweden.
