  1. 1. Winter browsing by moose and hares in subarctic birch forest : Scale dependency and responses to food addition

    Författare :Sara Öhmark; Thomas Palo; Glenn R. Iason; Bengt-Gunnar Jonsson; Lisa Shipley; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Herbivory; subarctic; hare; moose; spatial scale;

    Sammanfattning : Despite their difference in body size and morphology, the moose (Alces alces) andthe mountain hare (Lepus timidus) sustain themselves during winter on similar plantspecies and plant parts in in subarctic environments, namely apical twigs ofmountain birch (Betula pubescens ssp. czerepanovii). 2. 2. The use of highway crossings to maintain landscape connectivity for moose and roe deer

    Författare :Mattias Olsson; Per Widén; Anthony Clevenger; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; wildlife crossings; Barrier effect; habitat selection; ecoduct; moose; roe deer; connectivity; conservation; overpass; underpass; highway; exclusion fencing; Biology; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Increasingly wildlife managers and land managers are challenged to maintain the viability and connectivity among large mammal populations. Thus, it is important that effective highway crossings are identified and optimized with respect to construction cost, facilitation of ungulate movements, and ability to reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions. 3. 3. Snowmobile, motorcycle and moose-car accidents : aspects on injury control

    Författare :Ulf Björnstig; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Injury; accident; prevention; snowmobile; motorcycle; moose-car collision;

    Sammanfattning : Injuries related to snowmobiles, motorcycles and moose-car collisions have increased. The aim of the present thesis was to analyse mechanisms and consequences in fatal and non-fatal accidents of these types, and to penetrate possible preventive measures.SnowmobilesThe median age of the injured was 30 and of the killed 32, males predominating. 4. 4. Monitoring gene level biodiversity - aspects and considerations in the context of conservation

    Författare :Johan Charlier; Linda Laikre; Nils Ryman; Kjetil Hindar; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; brown trout; conservation genetics; genetic drift; genetic monitoring; effective population size; moose; one-sample approach; spatial genetic structure; statistical power; temporal data; populationsgenetik; Population Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : The objectives of this thesis relate to questions needed to be addressed in the context of genetic monitoring for implementing the Convention on Biological Diversity for the gene level. Genetic monitoring is quantifying temporal changes in population genetic metrics. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Phylogenetic relationships and species richness of coprophilous ascomycetes

    Författare :Åsa Nyberg Kruys; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ß-tubulin; Bayesian analysis; dung; forage; fungi; moose; parsimony; phylogeny; Pleosporales; spore dispersal; Sporormiaceae; Terrestrial ecology; Terrestisk ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Coprophilous ascomycetes are a diverse group of saprobes, of which many belong to three families, Delitschiaceae, Phaeotrichaceae and Sporormiaceae, within the large order Pleosporales. The natural relationships and circumscription of these families are unclear, especially within the family Sporormiaceae, where the generic delimitation have been questioned. LÄS MER
