  1. 1. Epidemiological studies of host susceptibility in malignant lymphomas and colorectal cancer

    Författare :Johan Askling; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :tuberculosis; infectious mononucleosis; skin cancer; malignant lymphoma; inflammatory bowel disease; colorectal cancer; epidemiology; risk factors;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate the role of host susceptibility in malignant lymphomas and colorectal cancer. Specifically, the associations between infection and malignant lymphomas, skin cancer and survival from subsequent cancer, and the association between inflammatory bowel disease, familial disease, and colorectal cancer were assessed using Swedish population-based and nation-wide registers. 2. 2. Epidemiological analysis of viral infections as risk factors for multiple sclerosis

    Författare :Cecilia Ahlgren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Viral childhood diseases have been implicated in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis (MS). Swedish mass vaccination programmes resulted in radical changes in the panorama of the targeted infections. Vaccines against measles, mumps and rubella were implemented in the early 1970s. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Viral proteins as serological antigens - Development and clinical applications

    Författare :Linn Persson Berg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Serology; ELISA; IgG; Varicella-zoster virus; Epstein-Barr virus; Measles virus; Viral glycoproteins; Multiple sclerosis;

    Sammanfattning : Serological methods are based on the detection of antibodies and antigens in mainly serum but also in other body fluids such as cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Conventional whole virus antigens are widely used in viral serological assays. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Immune response in human tonsil tissue

    Författare :Karin Ågren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Tonsillar hypertrophy; reeurrent tonsillitis; infectious mononueleosis; cytokine; immune response.;

    Sammanfattning : Pathogenic mechanisms responsible for tonsillar hypertrophy (TH) in children suffering from obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) were studied and compared with children with recurrent tonsillitis (RT) and infectious mononucleosis (IM), respectively. In an initial study the clinical consequences of OSAS caused by TH was investigated. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Biomarkers and viral risk factors in multiple sclerosis

    Författare :Jesse Huang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory disease resulting in axonal injury and demyelination of nerve fibers in the central nervous system. The causal factor and pathological mechanisms governing disease progression have remained elusive, limiting the available clinical tools for MS diagnosis and treatment monitoring, particularly in the periphery.
