16. Cellular Interactions with Extracellular Matrix During Development and in Muscle Disease
Sammanfattning : The formation and maintenance of tissues in multicellular animals are crucially dependent on cellular interactions with the extracellular matrix (ECM). Two different studies on such interactions are presented herein. LÄS MER
17. Muscle cell integrins in vitro and in vivo : Identification and characterisation of a novel integrin, α11β1
Sammanfattning : Integrins are heterodimeric receptors composed of non-covalently associated αand β subunits which have distinct functions on different cell types. α7β1integrin is an important laminin receptor in skeletal muscle. The mRNA andprotein expression patterns of α7A and α7B splice variants during mousedevelopment were studied. LÄS MER
18. Tumor-stroma interactions in hepatocellular carcinoma
Sammanfattning : Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a highly deadly primary liver cancer with a rising global incidence and limited therapeutic options, is characterized by a vicious cross-talk between the tumor and its surrounding hepatic stroma. The stromal environment, consisting of hepatic stellate cells (HSC), endothelial cells, resident and infiltrating macrophages and other immune cells, platelets and extracellular matrix (ECM) components, actively contributes to creating an ideal niche for tumor proliferation and invasiveness. 19. Adhesion Dependent Signals : Cell Survival, Receptor Crosstalk and Mechanostimulation
Sammanfattning : The integrin family of cell surface receptors is evolutionary conserved and found in all multicellular animals. In humans 8-alpha and 18-beta integrins are non-covalently associated into 24 dimers. Integrins mediate cell-extracellular matrix and cell-cell interactions and participate in cell signalling. 20. The role of RNA in prion aggregation and disease
Sammanfattning : As humanity evolved to witness an exceptionally high standard of living, Alzheimer’s, cancer and diabetes gradually replaced infections as the main limiting factors in longevity. It is both disturbing and captivating that such degenerative conditions are caused by the most ubiquitous biomolecule – the protein. LÄS MER
