21. Influence of the degradation mechanism on the molecular weight changes for some degradable polymers
Sammanfattning : The influence of degradation mechanism on molecular weightchanges was investigated for certain degradable polymers. Thepolymers investigated were modified low density polyethylene(LDPE), poly(ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol) (EVOH) and aliphatic polyesters. LÄS MER
22. Halomonas species as a source of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate). Preparation of hydrophilic macroporous polymer scaffolds
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents studies on moderately halophilic bacteria belonging to the family Halomonadaceae that accumulate polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) in high amounts when grown under conditions of nitrogen limitation. PHB is the simplest homopolymer belonging to the class of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs), the biopolyesters that can biodegraded in the environment to carbon dioxide and water and are hence attractive substitutes for fossil-derived plastics. 23. Investigation of Carbohydrate Hydrolysing Enzymes in Applications for Characterisation and Synthesis of Carbohydrates
Sammanfattning : Cellulose and starch are non-toxic, biodegradable and modifiable polymers. These properties have made them increasingly important in industrial products e. g. in pharmaceutical applications and in technical dispersions. LÄS MER
24. Exploring the role of rheology in bolus flow using an in-vitro approach
Sammanfattning : Swallowing disorders, termed ‘dysphagia’, are more common in the elderly but can also affect younger persons. Approximately, 8% of the world’s population suffers from dysphagia. A Texture Modified Diet (TMD), which increases bolus viscosity to adjust for the sluggish bolus handling mechanism, is the most common intervention. LÄS MER
25. Aspects on Strenght Delivery and Higher Utilisation of the Strength Potential of Kraft Pulp Fibres
Sammanfattning : Studies on strength delivery and related fields have so far concentrated on finding the locations in the mill where fibres are damaged and what the damages consist of. However, fibres will invariably encounter mechanical stresses along the fibreline and in this thesis a new concept is introduced; the vulnerability of fibres to mechanical treatment. LÄS MER
