6. Effects of aperiodic order for Josephson junction arrays and discrete breathers
Sammanfattning : Effects of the combination of nonlinearities and aperiodic order is studied in this thesis. The nonlinear systems considered are Josephson junction arrays (JJA) and Fermi-Pasta-Ulam (FPU) lattices. Both systems are discrete and one-dimensional. The traveling waves in a JJA are solitons, i. 7. Complexity of quasicrystal approximants —The RECd6 and RE13(Zn/Cd)~58 systems
Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused on the synthesis and structural determination of a series of quasicrystal approximants in the RE13Zn~58 (RE = Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb and Lu), Ce13Cd~58 and RECd6 (RE = Tb, Ho, Er, Tm and Lu) systems. Structural studies were performed by single crystal X-ray diffraction methods. LÄS MER
8. Influential Moments in City Planning Meetings : A Study of Decision-Making Situations in a Jordanian Municipality
Sammanfattning : The shaping of a city and its future relates to official decisions made in city planning meetings, where daily planning matters and decision-making processes adapt to changing societal circumstances. The interest of this research lies in how planning is officially established, managed and practiced in the setting of a Jordanian city, and its local districts. LÄS MER
9. Governing Climate Change under the Paris Regime : Meeting Urgency with Voluntarism
Sammanfattning : The climate is changing. As the global mean temperature continues to rise, the immense urgency of addressing the climate change crisis is evident. LÄS MER
10. Self Assembly at the Liquid Air Interface
Sammanfattning : The aim of this work is to study the interfacial properties of amphiphilic compounds at the liquid–air interface in an attempt to develop a comprehensive understanding of their orientation as well as the influence of their interaction with the solvent on the interfacial layer properties. Using Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy (VSFS) as the main tool, the molecular structure of the amphiphilic layer and the amphiphile–solvent relation can be illuminated in great detail – it is arguably the most sensitive surface spectroscopy currently available.
