  1. 6. Model-Based Stem Volume Retrieval and Windthrow Detection using CARABAS and P-band SAR

    Författare :Klas Folkesson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CARABAS; remote sensing; forest monitoring; model-based stem volume retrieval; image segmentation; synthetic aperture radar SAR ; P-band; windthrow detection;

    Sammanfattning : Radar remote sensing is an efficient method for monitoring forests over large areas. Radar waves transmitted from a system carried by a satellite or an aircraft interact with trees on the ground, and the reflected waves are used to form images which are independent of weather and light conditions. 2. 7. Incentives and Forest Reform: Evidence from China

    Författare :Yuanyuan Yi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Forest devolution; Household management; Forest investment; Deforestation; Allocative efficiency; Household welfare; Forestland rental markets; Collective forest tenure reform; Managerial incentives; Environmental protection; State-owned forests; State-owned enterprises; Chinese-style federalism; Two-principal; one-agent model; China;

    Sammanfattning : Chapter I: Forest Devolution Reform in China: A Trigger for Investment or Deforestation? I investigate whether and how the devolution of forestland to households in China triggered investment in forestland, and its effect on forest resource conditions. The investment analysis is based on a panel dataset of a two-round survey of 3,000 households in eight provinces before and after the implementation of the forest devolution reform, while the analysis of resource conditions is based on satellite imagery on forest cover and vegetation during 2001-2012. 3. 8. Impact of cold climate on boreal ecosystem processes : exploring data and model uncertainties

    Författare :Sihong Wu; Per-Erik Jansson; Annikki Mäkelä; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; net ecosystem exchange; sensible and latent heat fluxes; soil temperature; soil moisture; CoupModel; GLUE;

    Sammanfattning : The impact of cold climate on physical and biological processes, especially the role of air and soil temperature in recovering photosynthesis and transpiration in boreal forests, was investigated in a series of studies. A process-based ecosystem model (CoupModel) considering atmospheric, soil and plant components was evaluated and developed using Generalized Likelihood Uncertainty Estimation (GLUE) and detailed measurements from three different sites. 4. 9. Reserve selection in boreal forest : focusing on young forest biodiversity potential

    Författare :Johanna Lundström; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Most boreal forests in North Europe are intensively managed, and the forest landscape is far from its natural stage leading to hundreds of species being threatened in Sweden alone. Reserves are established to protect biodiversity, but since the resources available for conservation do not cover all species in need of protection, effective prioritization is essential. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Estimation of Forest Biomass and Faraday Rotation using Ultra High Frequency Synthetic Aperture Radar

    Författare :Gustaf Sandberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Forest Biomass; Ultra High Frequency; Faraday Rotation; Synthetic Aperture Radar;

    Sammanfattning : Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data in the Ultra High Frequency (UHF; 300 MHz – 3 GHz)) band have been shown to be strongly dependent of forest biomass, which is a poorly estimated variable in the global carbon cycle. In this thesis UHF-band SAR data from the fairly flat hemiboreal test site Remningstorp in southern Sweden were analysed. LÄS MER
