  1. 1. Constructing and contesting the legitimacy of private forest governance : The case of forest certification in Sweden

    Författare :Johanna Johansson; Carina Keskitalo; Karin Bäckstrand; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; accountability; corporate social responsibility; eco-labelling; forest certification; forest governance; forest practices; governance; legitimacy; national forest inventory; private governance; Sweden; voluntary standards; statskunskap; political science;

    Sammanfattning : In recent decades, political scientists have devoted substantial attention to the changing role of the state towards more inclusion of non-state actors in policymaking. This deliberative turn, or move towards governance, may signal inability to handle complex problems without cooperation with nonstate actors. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Timber as a forest-risk commodity: embodied socio-ecological impacts in the Brazilian supply chain

    Författare :Caroline Sartorato Silva Franca; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Environmentally-extended input-output model; Land use; Supply chain traceability; Forest frontiers; Sustainable Forest Management SFM ; Forest degradation; Illegal logging;

    Sammanfattning : The continued loss and degradation of forest resources is one of the largest sustainability challenges of our time. The past decades rise in global demand for agricultural and forest commodities have created unparalleled pressure on the natural resources, leading to forest destruction and associated loss in carbon stocks, invaluable biodiversity, ecosystems services, livelihoods. 3. 3. Direct and indirect pressures of climate change on nutrient and carbon cycling in northern forest ecosystems : Dynamic modelling for policy support

    Författare :Klas Lucander; BECC: Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Forest; boreal ecosystems; Forest biogeochemistry; Forest bioenergy; Boreal coniferous forest; base cations; Biogeochemical cycles; Dynamic Modelling; Carbon cycle; nitrogen cycle; decision support; policy-making; Weathering; Forestry; Land use change;

    Sammanfattning : Northern forest ecosystems play an important role in mitigating climate change by sequestrating carbon (C), while additionally providing and regulating other ecosystem services. A majority of the Swedish environmental quality objects (EQOs) that guide Swedish environmental policy and management are associated with the forest, and they have proven difficult to achieve. 4. 4. The European forest trade model : EU policy and the impact on forest raw material use

    Författare :Anna Mansikkasalo; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Economics; Nationalekonomi;

    Sammanfattning : The main purpose of this study is to develop a numerical simulation model of the European trade in forest fuels and analyse the possible trade levels for forest fuels in Europe following the implementation of EU energy policy. The White Paper and the RES-E Directive have been designed partly to support an increased use of forest fuels as sources for energy generation. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Optimal thinning : a theoretical investigation on individual-tree level

    Författare :Peter Fransson; Åke Brännström; Ola Lindroos; Oskar Franklin; Per Lundberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Forest management; Simulation; Optimization; Spatially explicit model; Individual-based model;

    Sammanfattning : Paper I: In paper I, we asked how a tree should optimally allocate its resources to maximize its fitness. We let a subject tree grow in an environment shaded by nearby competing trees. The competitors were assumed to have reached maturity and had stopped growing, thus creating a static light environment for the subject tree to grow in. LÄS MER
