1. Interior Flow and Formation of Plain Orifice Sprays
Sammanfattning : This thesis will summarize recent experimental observations of spray formation in highly atomizing plainorifce sprays, the kind commonly produced by fuel injectors in compression ignition internal combustionengines. Two special interactions will be addressed in detail: primary atomization under elevated ambientpressures and temperatures and orifce ow effects on primary atomization. LÄS MER

3. Numerical Modelling of Soot Formation in Turbulent Non-Premixed Flames
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes an extended flamelet approach for modelling of soot formation in turbulent hydrocarbons diffusion flames. Detailed chemical kinetic mechanisms are used to compute species concentrations, temperature, density and soot formation rates as functions of flamelet coordinates in the space of mixture fraction and scalar dissipation rate. 4. Particulate Formation in GDI Engines
Sammanfattning : The need to comply with stringent emission regulations while improving fuel economy and reducing criteria pollutant emissions from transportation presents a major challenge in the design of gasoline Direct Injection (DI) engines because of the adverse effects of ultrafine Particulate Number (PN) emissions on human health and other environmental concerns. With upcoming advances in vehicle electrification, it may be the case that electric vehicles completely replace all current vehicles powered by internal combustion engines ensuring zero emissions. 5. Cathodic Arc Synthesis of Ti-Si-C-N Thin Films : Plasma Analysis and Microstructure Formation
Sammanfattning : This Thesis explores the arc deposition process and films of Ti-Si-C-N, inspired by the two ternary systems Ti-Si-N and Ti-C-N, both successfully applied as corrosion and wear resistant films. The correlation between cathode, plasma, and film properties are studied for a comprehensive view on film formation. LÄS MER
