1. Sources and Diagnostics for Attosecond Science
Sammanfattning : Ultrafast science refers to physical events that happen on the femtosecond (1 fs=10^-15 s) and attosecond (1 as=10^-18 s) timescales. Generation of attosecond pulses is usually achieved by interacting high-intensity femtosecond pulses with matter (typically gases), in a process called high-order harmonic generation (HHG). LÄS MER
2. Gene expression profiling in autoimmune diseases : a story of ups and downs
Sammanfattning : Autoimmune diseases are believed to arise from a combination of genetic and environmental factors that affect normal function of immune cells. In this thesis, we studied the functional role of genetic variants, in peripheral blood cells, that relate to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and myositis by gene expression profiling. LÄS MER
3. Och nu börjar historien : Hjalmar Söderbergs novellkonst
Sammanfattning : Hjalmar Söderberg (1869–1941) published some seventy short stories in five collections, Historietter (1898), Främlingarna (1903), Det mörknar öfver vägen (1907), Den talangfulla draken (1913) and Resan till Rom (1929). The present study explores Söderberg’s short fiction from a genre-historical and genre-theoretical perspective. LÄS MER
4. Paracrine control of glucagon secretion in the pancreatic α-cell: Studies involving optogenetic cell activation
Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT The mechanisms controlling glucagon secretion by α-cells in islets of Langerhans were studied. We generated mice with the light-activated ion channel ChR2 specifically expressed in β-, α-, and δ-cells, and explored the spatio-temporal relationship between cell activation and glucagon release. 5. Biological control of diamondback moth : the roles of predators, parasitoids and insecticides
Sammanfattning : The diamondback moth Plutella xylostella L. (Lepidoptera: Plutellidae) is a serious pest of economically important crucifer crops such as cabbage. The moth has developed resistance to all tested insecticides and further studies on the potential role of factors affecting P. xylostella survival, including natural enemies, are urgently needed.
