6. Mid-Holocene mineral dust deposition in raised bogs in southern Sweden : Processes and links
Sammanfattning : Atmospheric mineral dust is a key component of the climate system, which affects insolation, brings nutrients to marine and terrestrial ecosystems, and acts as a cloud condensation nuclei. To reconstruct past patterns in terrestrial dust deposition natural archives may be utilized, such as loess, dunes, lakes, and peat bogs. LÄS MER
7. Stabilization of fine-grained soils in cold environment and exposed to seasonal frost : By-products as hydraulic binders
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis deals with the stabilization of fine-grained soils using by-product originated hydraulic binders. The use of fine-grained soils as subsoil for infrastructure projects is often limited because of the risk for instability. LÄS MER
8. Source and age of late Quaternary loess deposits in Europe
Sammanfattning : Atmospheric mineral dust is a fundamental component of the Earth’s climate system, with dust both responding to and driving climate change. This close link between dust and climate is recorded in archives of past dust activity, which show that abrupt 101-3 yr shifts in temperature during the last glacial period were accompanied with fluctuations in dust activity. 9. Air quality assessment and pollution measurements in a typical Sub-Sahara African city: Nairobi, Kenya
Sammanfattning : Exposure to air pollution is detrimental to human health and is reported to cause about 7 million premature deaths in 2012 according to the World Health Organization. In sub-Sahara Africa (SSA) cities, air quality issue is complex due to challenges resulting from the rapid growth of urban population, poor infrastructure development and an exponential increase in number of vehicles. 10. Chemical exposures, biological monitoring and cancer risks in Swedish aluminium foundries and remelting plants
Sammanfattning : In aluminium foundries and remelting plants, a wide range of chemical agents are formed and emitted, including some highly toxic organochlorine compounds. This thesis explores emissions and exposures, as well as worker risk of porphyria and cancer. LÄS MER
