1. DFT calculations of initial localized corrosion of aluminum : Influence of aqueous ad-layer, chloride ions, and intermetallic particles
Sammanfattning : Localized corrosion of aluminum (Al, here including Al alloys) involves a series of physico-chemical processes at the interface between the metal and the aqueous ad-layer or the aqueous solution. The mechanisms that govern localized corrosion are quite complex and have been the subject of many experimental studies. LÄS MER
2. System-Level Techniques for Temperature-Aware Energy Optimization
Sammanfattning : Energy consumption has become one of the main design constraints in today’s integrated circuits. Techniques for energy optimization, from circuit-level up to system-level, have been intensively researched. LÄS MER
3. Theoretical studies of microcavities and photonic crystals for lasing and waveguiding applications
Sammanfattning : This Licentiate presents the main results of theoretical study of light propagation in photonic structures, namely lasing disk microcavities and photonic crystals. In the first two papers (Paper I and Paper II) we present the developed novel scattering matrix technique dedicated to calculation of resonant states in 2D disk microcavities with the imperfect surface or/and inhomogeneous refractive index. 4. Electric DNA arrays for determination of pathogenic Bacillus cereus
Sammanfattning : Silicon-based electric chip arrays were developed for characterization of Bacillus cereus with respect to the capacity to produce toxins involved in food poisoning and foodborne infections. Bacteria of the B. cereus group contain different sets of four toxins encoded by eight genes. LÄS MER
5. Redesigning an emergency department for interprofessional teamwork : a longitudinal evaluation of the impact on patient flow and team behaviour
Sammanfattning : Objective: Crowding in emergency departments (EDs) has negative effects on patients and staff, whereas effective teamwork in healthcare has positive effects. Triage interventions and streaming of specific patient categories are common strategies used by EDs to reduce the negative effects of crowding, but few studies have evaluated interprofessional teamwork as a strategy to reduce ED crowding.
