6. Metabolism of some polychlorinated biphenyl and polybrominated diphenyl ether congeners in the rat
Sammanfattning : For the understanding of the metabolic fate of xenobiotics, in vivo studies are needed. In this thesis the metabolism of CB-28 and CB-77 and BDE-209 in the rat are determined. In addition, pharmacokinetic studies of CB-28 and BDE- 209 are included. The compounds were radiolabelled and their excretion and tissue distribution determined. LÄS MER
7. Identification and origin of potential background carcinogens : endogenous isoprene and oxiranes, dietary acrylamide
Sammanfattning : The primary aims of this thesis are to discover carcinogens in the general population by identification of products of reaction with hemoglobin (Hb adducts) in blood from humans without known exposure, and tracing the origin of the adducts. Chemicals and/or their metabolites forming Hb adducts mostly also react with DNA and may thus cause mutations, a key event in carcinogenesis. LÄS MER
8. Synthesis and characterization of highly polybrominated diphenyl ethers
Sammanfattning : Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) make up an important class of brominated flame retardants. The present production is mainly concentrated to DecaBDE but until recently also a significant production of PentaBDE and OctaBDE took place, leaving us with a large number of different PBDE congeners. 9. Chemical reactivities as a mirror of environmental transformations - method development and assessment of some selected organohalogens
Sammanfattning : The assement of chemical persistence is an important part of legislative protection of the environment and human health. Of the vast number of chemicals on the market today few have been properly assessed. LÄS MER
10. Assessment of Environmental Pollutants in Humans from Four Continents : Exposure levels in Slovakia, Guinea-Bissau, Nicaragua and Bangladesh
Sammanfattning : Humans are continuously exposed to complex mixtures of anthropogenic chemicals. This thesis focus on human exposure to persistent organic pollutants (POPs). POPs ability to bioaccumulate and biomagnify together with the extensive historical use of POPs in e.g. LÄS MER
