  1. 11. Long-term outcome after traumatic brain injury : studies of individuals from northern Sweden

    Författare :Lars Jacobsson; Jörgen Borg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Health Science; Hälsovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : As traumatic brain injury (TBI) is as one of the major causes of long-term disability, there is an increasing interest in the long-term outcome of TBI. The overall aim of this thesis was to increase our knowledge and understanding of the situation for individuals many years post injury, with regard to demographics, injury characteristics and primary outcome, long-term functioning and disability, health-related quality of life, life satisfaction, self-appraisal of the impact of the TBI and sense of coherence. 2. 12. Oxidative stress in experimental traumatic brain injury

    Författare :Mattias Günther; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of death and disability among the young population in the industrialized world. The injury consists of immediate damage to the brain tissue, followed by a secondary response involving inflammation and oxidative stress. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Intracranial Compliance and Secondary Brain Damage. Experimental and Clinical Studies in Traumatic Head Injury

    Författare :Konstantin Salci; Per Enblad; Pelle Nilsson; Peter Hutchinsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Neurosciences; Traumatic brain injury; Intracranial compliance; Secondary insults; Microdialysis; Neurointensive care; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) renders the brain more vulnerable to secondary insults. The increased vulnerability can probably be explained by a combination of disturbances in hemodynamics, metabolism and craniospinal dynamics. Reduced ability to compensate for added intracranial volume, i.e. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Diagnosis and monitoring of sport-related concussion

    Författare :Sanna Neselius; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatic brain injury; mild traumatic brain injury; sport-related concussion; concussion;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Concussions are one of the most common sport-related injuries and it is known that they cause axonal and glial damage, and that there are risks for long-term effects. The aims of this thesis were to find possible methods, which may help clinicians to diagnose and monitor mild traumatic brain injury (TBI), analyse the APOEε4 allele genotype that has been associated with poor outcome after TBI and evaluate the relationship between neuropsychological assessment and brain injury biomarkers in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).
