1. Mesothelial differentiation, mesothelioma and tumor markers in serous cavities
Sammanfattning : Mesothelial cells covering the serous membranes are of mesodermal origin although they acquire several characteristics of epithelial cells. The cytological and histological diagnosis of malignant tumors in serous cavities is sometimes a major challenge: the main diagnostic alternatives are reactive benign mesothelium, mesothelioma and adenocarcinoma. 2. In-plane tension behaviour of masonry
Sammanfattning : The main purpose of the present work is to increase knowledge of in-plane tension behav-iour of masonry and develop a model able to describe the impact of parameters influencing cracking caused by restrained shrinkage. In the process the mechanism of load transfer between units and mortar joints is described. LÄS MER
3. Methodological developments in small animal PET neuroimaging
Sammanfattning : Positron emission tomography (PET) is a nuclear imaging technique using a multidisciplinary approach to functionally visualize processes in the brain or other living tissue. It is capable to determine the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of a molecule in the CNS, with a low risk of side effects on the subject. LÄS MER
4. Pathophysiological, Inflammatory and Haemostatic Responses to Various Endotoxaemic Patterns : An Experimental Study in the Pig
Sammanfattning : Septic shock is frequently seen in intensive care units and is associated with significant mortality. Endotoxin – a major mediator of the pathophysiologic responses – is released during lysis of Gram-negative bacteria. These responses can be mimicked in the endotoxaemic pig. LÄS MER
5. Role of 11-ketotestosterone and prolactin in the control of reproductive behaviour in the male three-spined stickleback, Gasterosteus aculeatus
Sammanfattning : The male three-spined stickleback, Gasterosteus aculeatus, builds a nest by glueing plant material together using an 11-ketotestosterone (11kT) induced protein (spiggin) secreted from the kidney. When females have been induced to lay eggs in the nest, male sexual (zigzag) behaviour decreases and parental care (fanning) increases. LÄS MER
