1. The Feeling of Migration : Narratives of Queer Intimacies and Partner Migration
Sammanfattning : This dissertation analyzes narratives of queer partner migration, that is, a family-tie migration in which one of the partners of a relationship has migrated in order for the partners to be together, and where the partners queer the migration in the sense that they have a non-normative sexuality and/or gender identity. The purpose of the study is to examine how queer partner migrants and their Swedish partners experience the migration process – which continues also once the administrative process has been completed – by analyzing the emotions and feelings that emerge in the process. Sammanfattning : The main aim of this dissertation is to study the relationship between migration policy and nation states by using a discourse analytical approach. This study has shown that migration policy and nation state discourses are closely intertwined, at least in the actual period investigated – the 1960s to the mid 1990s. LÄS MER
3. Migration, Stress and Mental Ill Health : Post-migration Factors and Experiences in the Swedish Context
Sammanfattning : This predominantly empirical dissertation deals with how socio-economic living conditions and immigrant-specific factors can be linked to immigrants’ mental ill health. It is also explored how cultural representations can affect stress and whether mental ill health is expressed differently among immigrants from Iraq and Iran than among individuals of Nordic origin. Sammanfattning : In the wake of a steady flow of child migrants attempting to cross borders and states’ efforts to restrict immigration, various public controversies have arisen about the rights of asylum-seeking children. The ‘moral gap’ between the outcome of democratically enacted laws and the aim of controlling immigration, on the one hand, and public calls to protect the universal rights of asylum seeking children, on the other, have created a political challenge for Western democracies.
