11. Nicotinic effects on midbrain dopamine neurons : a dual mechanism of action
Sammanfattning : The neurons of the mesocorticolimbic dopamine system are located in the ventral tegmental area (VTA) in the mesencephalon and send their projections to forebrain structures, such as the prefrontal cortex, the amygdala and the nucleus accumbens. The dopamine system is important in regulating mood and motivation as well as cognitive function and appear to be primarily involved in drug dependence, since most drugs abused by man stimulate this system. 12. Intrinsic and extrinsic factors controlling the differentiation of human midbrain progenitor cells
Sammanfattning : Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor deficits. Levodopa treatment provides marked symptomatic relief. However, within 5-10 years after the start of Levodopa treatment, most PD patients display a gradual loss of drug efficacy. LÄS MER
13. Regulation of midbrain dopaminergic neuron development by Wnts, sFRPs and bHLH proteins
Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic neurodegenerative disorder. The main pathology is characterized by progressive degeneration of the dopaminergic (DA) neurons of the substantia nigra leading to loss of striatal dopamine innervation. The knowledge about the fundamental mechanisms behind the degenerative process has been limited. LÄS MER
14. Exploring Diversity in the Midbrain Dopamine System with Emphasis on the Ventral Tegmental Area
Sammanfattning : Midbrain dopamine neurons of the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc) and ventral tegmental area (VTA) are important for motor, cognitive and limbic functions through substantial projections to forebrain structures. Dysfunction of the midbrain dopamine system is associated with several disorders, including Parkinson´s disease (PD) and substance use disorder. LÄS MER
15. Afferent input to midbrain dopamine neurones and its modulation : an electrophysiological study i vitro
Sammanfattning : Dopamine (DA) neurones of the ventral mesencephalon are involved in the control of reward related behaviour, cognitive functions and motor performances, and provide a critical site of action for major categories of neuropsychiatric drugs, such as antipsychotic agents, dependence producing drugs and anti-Parkinson medication. The midbrain DA neurones are mainly located in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNPC) and the ventral tegmental area (VTA). LÄS MER
