1. On Bone Regeneration in Porous Bioceramics - Studies in humans and rabbits using free form fabricated scaffolds
Sammanfattning : The objective of the present thesis was to evaluate the effect of material chemistry and macroand micro-porosity on bone regeneration in association with synthetic, porous ceramic materials. Ceramic scaffolds were designed and manufactured for experimental and human studies using free form fabrication (FFF), a technique which produces the object layer by layer using data from CAD files. 2. On the Spray Forming of Metals, the Formation of Porosity and the Heat Evolution during Solidification
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the heat evolution duringsolidification and its relation to the formation of porosity. It intends to improve the current understanding of theformation of porosity in cast materials with special interestin nodular cast iron and the spray forming process. 3. Dissolving the Rocks : Solubility Enhancement of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients using Mesoporous Silica
Sammanfattning : Poor aqueous solubility is one of the greatest barriers for new drug candidates to enter toxicology studies, let alone clinical trials. This thesis focuses on contributing to solving this problem, evaluating the oral toxicity of mesoporous silica particles, and enhancing the apparent solubility and bioavailability of active pharmaceutical ingredients in vitro and in vivo using mesoporous silica particles. 4. Engineering tissue – Bacterial cellulose as a potential biomaterial
Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular diseases are still the predominant cause of death among the adult population in the Western world. Diseases such as myocardial infarction and stroke are caused by occluded blood vessels, as a result of atherosclerosis. LÄS MER
5. Water film-mediated mineralogical transformations and photocatalytic reactions
Sammanfattning : Mineral particles capture water vapor in the atmosphere in the form of water films that are only few monolayers thick. Water films form nanoscale hydration environments that mediate a wide range of important reactions in nature and technology. LÄS MER
