1. An add-on filter technique to improve micropollutant removal and water quality in on-site sewage treatment facilities
Sammanfattning : Onsite sewage treatment facilities (OSSFs) in Sweden currently release significant amounts of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) into groundwater or/and receiving water bodies. Micropollutants (MPs) have been found in both surface water and groundwater, indicating insufficient removal of MPs by OSSFs. LÄS MER
2. UV-based advanced oxidation process for nutrient stabilisation and organic micropollutant degradation in source-separated human urine
Sammanfattning : Urine dehydration is one of the technological approach to recover nutrients in concentrated form from source separated urine. When drying fresh urine, nitrogen loss occurs due to hydrolysis of urea into ammonia unless methods to inactivate urease enzyme are employed. LÄS MER
3. Removal of Pharmaceuticals in Biofilm and Activated Sludge Systems
Sammanfattning : Abstract The present work investigates i) the occurrence and removal of pharmaceuticals at Swedish WWTPs, and ii) potential causes for differences in the removal efficiency of pharmaceuticals at wastewater treatment plants. Particular attention is directed at the biological treatment and the pharmaceutical removal capacity per unit biomass of activated sludges and carrier biofilms of different origins. LÄS MER
4. Perspectives on Biofilms for the Removal of Organic Micropollutants in Wastewater
Sammanfattning : The use of biofilms to improve the removal of organic micropollutants in waste¬water treatment plants (WWTPs) has been investigated. The work is divided into two parts. In the first part, the use of biofilms for the biological degradation of micro¬pollutants was investigated. LÄS MER
5. Adsorption and transformation of organic micropollutants in wastewater : New insights from 14C-labeling
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the removal of organic micropollutants and transformation products using ozone and activated carbon treatment processes. A combination of 14C-labeled and non-radiolabeled organic micropollutants was used to study aspects of micropollutant removal from novel perspectives. LÄS MER
