6. Development and characterization of an in vitro method for interaction studies between polymers and pharmaceuticals : Aiding in the development of new drug delivery systems
Sammanfattning : Polymers are a group of macromolecules used in formulations of pharmaceuticals, one example being the delivery system DC Bead™. Further, some of the most abundant and for drug delivery important constituents of the subcutaneous tissue are charged polymers (polyelectrolytes), e.g. collagen, hyaluronic acid, and chondroitin sulfate. 7. Structure, Dynamics and Phase Behaviour of Charged Soft Colloidal Dispersions
Sammanfattning : Soft and deformable ionic microgels such as poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-acrylic acid), PNIPAM-co-AA, microgels have shown to be a versatile alternative to the already well-established hard sphere model systems. Their tuneable interaction potential makes them well suited as model systems to study the phase behaviour found for particles interacting via a soft isotropic potential. LÄS MER
8. Synthesising colloidal molecules with tunable interactions from soft responsive microgel particles
Sammanfattning : Colloidal self-assembly is an attractive bottom-up approach to new superstructures and materials with new properties. However, the typical spherical shape and isotropic interaction potential limit the repertoire of ordered structures that can be obtained from synthetic colloids. LÄS MER
9. Microstructure and liquid mass transport control in nanocomposite materials
Sammanfattning : Some of the biggest problems currently facing the world are closely tied to unsolved technological challenges in the material sciences. Many materials have a porous microstructure that controls their overall properties. LÄS MER
10. Interaction Between Microgels and Oppositely Charged Proteins
Sammanfattning : This thesis reports on interactions between microgels and oppositely charged proteins. Two types of negatively charged microgels are investigated: poly(acrylic acid) microgels of 60-80 µm in diameter, and colloidal poly(NIPAM-co-acrylic acid) microgels of around 1 µm in diameter.
