  2. 2. Crustal stress studies using microearthquakes and boreholes

    Författare :Björn Lund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Geofysik med inriktning mot fasta jordens fysik; Geophysics with specialization in Solid Earth Physics;

    Sammanfattning : The state of stress in the crust is essential for the understanding of geodynamic processes such as the transmission of plate driving forces through the lithosphere and the triggering of earthquakes. This thesis describes the development and application of new methods for the estimation of crustal stresses. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The Potential of b-value Variations as Earthquake Precursors for Small and Large Events

    Författare :Paiboon Nuannin; Roland Roberts; Ota Kulhanek; Bjorn Lund; Federico Guendel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :General; Frequency magnitude distribution; b-values; rockbursts; Andaman-Sumatra region; Zinkgruvan mine; December 26; 2004 earthquake; ALLMÄNT;

    Sammanfattning : The potential of variations of b-values in the G-R relation, logN=a-bM as earthquake precursors for small events (rockbursts) in Zinkgruvan mine, Sweden and for tectonic (large) earthquakes in the Andaman-Sumatra region were investigated. The temporal frequency-magnitude distribution, b(t), of rockbursts in Zinkgruvan mine was examined using high quality data recorded during the period November 1996 to April 2004 with magnitude ranges from Mw= -2. 5. 5. Active and passive seismic methods for investigating the glacially-triggered Burträsk fault

    Författare :Ruth A. Beckel; Christopher Juhlin; Alireza Malehmir; Lars Nielsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Burträsk fault; Glacially-triggered faulting; Crooked-line reflection seismics; Cross-dip correction; Stacking-based location; Microearthquake source observations; Passive seismic imaging; Seismic interferometry; Geofysik med inriktning mot fasta jordens fysik; Geophysics with specialization in Solid Earth Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Glacially-triggered faults are of high scientific interest since their formation was likely accompanied by major earthquakes and they are still a centre of seismicity in northern Fennoscandia, today. Imaging their deeper structure mainly relies on reflection seismics since the method generally has the best resolving power at depth of all geophysical methods. LÄS MER
