1. Microdosimetry of radiohalogens in thyroid models
Sammanfattning : The radiohalogens 123I, 124I, 125I, 131I, and 211At are routinely used or proposed for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. The different characteristics and application areas of these radioiodine isotopes, together with the possibility to bind them to the same carrier molecule, give many advantages, for example, by enabling relevant biodistribution and dosimetric studies important for dose-planning before radionuclide therapy. 2. Development of Monte Carlo track structure simulations for protons and carbon ions in water
Sammanfattning : The goal of radiation therapy is to eradicate tumour cells while minimising radiation dose to healthy tissues. Ions including protons and carbon ions have gained increasing interest for cancer treatment. LÄS MER
3. The microdosimetric variance-covariance method used for beam quality characterization in radiation protection and radiation therapy
Sammanfattning : Radiation quality is described by the RBE (relative biological effectiveness) that varies with the ionizing ability of the radiation. Microdosimetric quantities describe distributions of energy imparted to small volumes and can be related to RBE. LÄS MER
4. Dosimetry and radiation quality in fast-neutron radiation therapy : A study of radiation quality and basic dosimetric properties of fast-neutrons for external beam radiotherapy and problems associated with corrections of measured charged particle cross-sections
Sammanfattning : The dosimetric properties of fast-neutron beams with energies ≤80 MeV were explored using Monte Carlo techniques. Taking into account transport of all relevant types of released charged particles (electrons, protons, deuterons, tritons, 3He and α particles) pencil-beam dose distributions were derived and used to calculate absorbed dose distributions. 5. Monte Carlo particle transport codes for ion beam therapy treatment planning : Validation, development and applications
Sammanfattning : External radiotherapy with proton and ion beams needs accurate tools for the dosimetric characterization of treatment fields. Monte Carlo (MC) particle transport codes, such as FLUKA and GEANT4, can be a valuable method to increase accuracy of dose calculations and to support various aspects of ion beam therapy (IBT), such as treatment planning and monitoring.
