  1. 6. Antibiotic interactions and selection for resistance in biofilms

    Författare :Po-Cheng Tang; Dan I. Andersson; Karin Hjort; Mark Webber; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antibiotics; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : The challenges posed by antibiotic-resistant bacteria in treating infections, particularly those associated with biofilms, require a deeper understanding of this lifestyle and its connection to resistance selection. Additionally, gaining insights into drug interactions is crucial for enhancing combination treatment efficacy and mitigating resistance development. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Bacterioplankton in the light of seasonality and environmental drivers

    Författare :Carina Bunse; Jarone Pinhassi; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine bacteria; marine microbiology; seasonal succession; ocean acidification; proteorhodopsin; photoheterotrophy; microbial time series; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology; Miljövetenskap; Environmental Science;

    Sammanfattning : Bacterioplankton are keystone organisms in marine ecosystems. They are important for element cycles, by transforming dissolved organic carbon and other nutrients. Bacterioplankton community composition and productivity rates change in surface waters over spatial and temporal scales. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Effect of environmental factors on bacterioplankton community composition, diversity and functionality

    Författare :Johanna Sjöstedt; Lasse Riemann; Silke Langenheder; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine microbiology; bacterioplankton; community composition; diversity; functionality; environmental factors; disturbance; distribution; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : The ocean covers more than 70 % of the Earth surface and represents the largest ecosystem on Earth. Bacteria are an important part of the marine food web not only in remineralisation but also since they utilize dissolved organic matter (DOM) and make the energy available to higher trophic levels. 4. 9. The genetics of antibiotic production and the role of antibiotics in biological control of Erwinia amylovora by Erwinia herbicola

    Författare :Sandra A. I. Wright; Cornell University; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biological sciences; fire blight; pantocin; Plant pathology; Microbiology; Molecular biology; 0480:Plant pathology; 0307:Molecular biology; 0410:Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Erwinia herbicola is an epiphyte of apple and pear with potential as a biocontrol agent of Erwinia amylovora, which causes fire blight. This research aimed to assess the relative role of antibiotics produced by E. herbicola, Eh318 as a mechanistic basis for biocontrol. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Small RNA-mediated Regulation of Gene Expression in Escherichia coli

    Författare :Cecilia Unoson; E. Gerhart. H Wagner; Renée Schroeder; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Small RNA; non-coding RNA; antisense; translational control; ribosome standby; toxin-antitoxin; IstR; TisB; tisAB; MicF; Lrp; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Biologi med inriktning mot mikrobiologi; Biology with specialization in Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Non-coding RNAs are highly abundant regulators of gene expression in all kingdoms of life that often play important roles in vital cellular functions. In bacteria, small regulatory RNAs (sRNAs) usually act post-transcriptionally by regulating mRNAs through base pairing within ribosome binding sites (RBS), thereby inhibiting translation initiation.
