1. Volatile organic compounds from microorganisms : identification and health effects
Sammanfattning : Damp building materials are subjected to degradation processes due to moisture and also microbial growth, with both of these giving rise to emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that may contribute to indoor air health problems. The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate emissions of reactive and non-reactive VOCs from damp building materials and from the microorganisms growing on them, and also to investigate the possible health impact of these compounds. 2. Volatile metabolites from microorganisms in indoor environments : sampling, analysis and identification
Sammanfattning : Microorganisms are able to produce a wide variety of volatile organic compounds. This thesis deals with sampling, analysis and identification of such compounds, produced by microorganisms commonly found in buildings. LÄS MER
3. Microbes Associated with Hylobius abietis : A Chemical and Behavioral Study
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on three inter-related studies: the first part deals with the microbial consortium, the identification of microbes and their volatiles, the second part deals with the study of bio-chemical control methods of two conifer pests; the pine weevil Hylobius abietis (L.) and the root rot fungi Heterobasidion spp. LÄS MER
4. Seasonal and Long-Term Storage of Baled Municipal Solid Waste
Sammanfattning : Baling of MSW has been extensively used in Sweden and other countries for the storage of energy (biomass for energy) for incineration and production of either and or electricity and heat. Baling is performed in two principally different ways, leading to cylindrical- or rectangular bales. LÄS MER
5. Indoor Environment in Dwellings and Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) : Longitudinal Studies
Sammanfattning : People spend most of their time indoors and mostly in the dwelling. It is therefore important to investigate associations between indoor exposure in dwellings and health. Symptoms that may be related to the indoor environment are sometimes referred to as the "sick building syndrome" (SBS). LÄS MER
