    Sammanfattning : Localized corrosion, such as pitting, crevice corrosion or galvanic corrosion, is a long-standing phenomenon that can greatly limit the life of metallic materials. For decades experimental methods have been used to try to understand the underlying physical, chemical and electrochemical processes that control localized corrosion in order to find effective protection methods against its propagation. Sammanfattning :    With the advancement and accessibility of local probing techniques that can operate at the submicron scale it has become possible to analyse the local corrosion properties of industrially important metallic materials and relate these properties to microstructure characteristics of the same materials. In this doctoral study the focus has been on copper-zinc samples, both as industrial brass alloys and as micro-patterned copper-zinc samples. LÄS MER

  3. 3. DFT calculations of initial localized corrosion of aluminum : Influence of aqueous ad-layer, chloride ions, and intermetallic particles

    Författare :Min Liu; Jinshan Pan; Ying Chen; KTH; []

    Sammanfattning : Localized corrosion of aluminum (Al, here including Al alloys) involves a series of physico-chemical processes at the interface between the metal and the aqueous ad-layer or the aqueous solution. The mechanisms that govern localized corrosion are quite complex and have been the subject of many experimental studies. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Mechanistic studies of localized corrosion of Al alloys by high resolution in-situ and ex-situ probing techniques

    Författare :Ali Davoodi; Jinshan Pan; Gerald S. Frankel; KTH; []

    Sammanfattning : A multi-analytical approach based on in-situ and ex-situ local probing techniques was employed to investigate localized corrosion mechanisms of some aluminum alloys in chloride containing solutions, focusing on the influence of intermetallic particles (IMPs) in the alloys. In the EN AW-3003 alloy, SEM-EDS analysis revealed constituent and dispersoid IMPs. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Atmospheric corrosion of copper and copper-based alloys in architecture : from native surface oxides to fully developed patinas

    Författare :Tingru Chang; Inger Odnevall Wallinder; Tomas Prošek; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Copper and copper-based alloys are commonly used in both ancient and modern architecture. This requires an in-depth fundamental and applied understanding on their atmospheric corrosion behavior at different climatic, environmental and pollutant levels and how these parameters influence e.g. LÄS MER
