2. Calculation of scatter in cone beam CT : Steps towards a virtual tomograph
Sammanfattning : Scattered photons—shortly scatter—are generated by interaction processes when photon beams interact with matter. In diagnostic radiology, they deteriorate image quality since they add an undesirable signal that lowers the contrast in projection radiography and causes cupping and streak artefacts in computed tomography (CT). 3. FROM SERUM TO TISSUE: GALECTIN-BINDING GLYCOFORMS OF SERUM GLYCOPROTEINS AS FUNCTIONAL BIOMARKERS
Sammanfattning : Galectins are small soluble proteins defined by a conserved sequence motif that forms a defining β-galactoside binding site shared among galectins; adjacent binding sites give each galectin a unique fine specificity for a specific subset of galactose containing glycans. A wealth of data now suggests important roles of galectins in both cancer and inflammation. LÄS MER
4. Phylogeography of the Adder, Vipera berus
Sammanfattning : The phylogeography of a wide ranging temperate species, the adder, Vipera berus, was investigated using several genetic tools, with special emphasis on the post-glacial colonisation pattern of Fennoscandia. The area was colonised from two directions by adder populations representing different glacial refugia. LÄS MER
5. Radioluminescence : A simple model for fluorescent layers - analysis and applications
Sammanfattning : A phosphor or scintillator is a material that will emit visible light when struck by ionising radiation. In the early days of diagnostic radiology, it was discovered that the radiation dose needed to get an image on a film, could be greatly reduced by inserting a fluorescent layer of a phosphor in direct contact with the film.
