1. Bacterial adhesion to polyelectrolyte modified materials based on nanocellulose
Sammanfattning : Since the introduction of materials based on cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs), these materials have been studied extensively and are suggested to be suitable for use in, for example, hygiene and health care products. A property not very well studied but that could further increase the usability of CNF products is the possibility of controlling bacterial adhesion to the materials. LÄS MER
2. Natural products from nonracemie building blocks : synthesis of pine sawfly pheromones
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes a number of synthetic approaches for obtaining chiral, enantiomerically pure natural products, in particular some semiochemicals. This has been accomplished by using various strategies; by starting from compounds from the chiral pool, by using chiral auxiliaries, via enzymatic resolutions or by chemical asymmetric synthesis. 3. Timber-concrete hybrid structural systems : Examples, long and short-term dynamic monitoring, and numerical analysis
Sammanfattning : Timber-concrete hybrid buildings are an innovative solution to increase the amount of timber materials in modern buildings. Due to its lower impact on the environment than materials like steel and concrete, the demand for timber products is rising as the construction industry aims to decrease its environmental footprint. 4. Electron transport in quaternized cross-linked poly(4-vinylpyridine) films containing trapped redox molecules : experimental and theoretical aspects that concern identification of electron translation mechanisms
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the identification of electron translation mechanisms in quaternized cross-linked poly(4-vinylpyridine) films containing trapped redox molecules. Experimental aspects, such as the determination of the total amounts of electroactive species within the films, measurements of electrochemical rate parameters and ellipsometric film thickness evaluation, are discussed together with theoretical models that predict different mechanisms of charge transport. 5. Study of High Efficiency Phase-Only Diffractive Optical Elements
Sammanfattning : This work deals with the design, simulation, manufacture, and evaluation of diffractive optical elements. Particularly, kinoforms and diffractive bifocal intraocular lenses are studied. Evaluation of kinoforms, i.e. LÄS MER
