6. Functional Recovery after Experimental Stroke in Mice- Involvement of Enriched Environment, BDNF and Cell Genesis
Sammanfattning : Stroke is caused by an obstruction of blood flow to a part of the brain, resulting in brain damage. Stroke is the third most common cause of death in the industrialized world, and the primary cause of adult-onset disability. LÄS MER
7. Movement pattern analysis of hypoglutamatergic mice. A model for cognitive deficits of schizophrenia and autism?
Sammanfattning : Schizophrenia and autism are two severe neuropsychiatric disorders that are associated withprofound cognitive disturbances which considerably contribute to the long-term morbidity andthe decreased ability to function in the society. Currently used therapies do not reach the corecognitive disturbances to a satisfactory extent. LÄS MER
8. Of mice and men : SOD1 associated human amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and transgenic mouse models
Sammanfattning : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, ALS, is a progressive fatal neurodegenerative disorder affecting motor neurones in motor cortex, brain stem and spinal cord. This inevitably leads to paralysis, respiratory failure and death. LÄS MER
9. Regulation of bile acids by prebiotic food components : Studies in rat caecum and in serum of mice and humans
Sammanfattning : Bile acids (BA) are formed from cholesterol in the liver and, apart from being part of fat digestion, they also act as signalling molecules in several health-related physiological processes. BA composition is regulated by gut microbiota as well as dietary fibre (DF) and fat in the diet. LÄS MER
10. Interactions between the environmental pollutant 2,3,7,8- tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin and coxsackievirus infection : Experimental studies in mice
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the interactions between 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) and infection. A model of human coxsackievirus type B3 (CB3) infection, adapted to A/J mice, was used. The effects on some immune cell populations and host resistance to CB3 infection were studied immediately after TCDD exposure and 3 months later.
