  1. 1. Genetic Aspects of Sexual Selection and Mate Choice in Salmonids

    Författare :Lars Forsberg; Mats Grahn; Jacob Höglund; Claus Wedekind; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; mate choice; Mhc; Major histocompatibility complex; class IIB; disassortative; assortative; microsatellite; outbreeding; supportive breeding; population; population genetics; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : The long-term genetic consequences of supportive breeding programs are not well understood. Nevertheless, stocking populations with hatchery-produced fish to compensate for losses of natural production are common practice, for example after constructions of hydroelectric power dams. 2. 2. MHC and genomic diversity in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.)

    Författare :Jakob Lohm; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Djurekologi; cytogenetik; Genetik; cytogenetics; Genetics; nucleotide diversity; isolation-by-distance; DGGE; AFLP; furunculosis; disease resistance; Arctic charr; brown trout; Atlantic salmon; population genetics; genetic variation; Mhc class IIB; Animal ecology;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I present studies concerning genomic diversity and genetic heterogeneity as well as the evolution and maintenance of genetic variation at a specific immune defence gene in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar, L.). LÄS MER

  3. 3. MHC diversity and expression in a songbird : Temporal and transgenerational variation

    Författare :Samantha Mellinger; MEMEG; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MHC diversity; MHC-I gene expression; songbirds; genome assembly; amplicon HTS; temporal variation; family data; great reed warbler Acrocephalus arundinaceus ;

    Sammanfattning : The immune system is of central importance to clear-off pathogens in order to keep an organism healthy. In vertebrates, the Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) is a genomic region that holds key genes involved in adaptive immunity and in particular in the antigen presenting process. LÄS MER

  4. 4. MHC polymorphism and host-pathogen interactions: The case of Borrelia in its reservoir host, the bank vole Myodes glareolus

    Författare :Kristin Scherman; MEMEG; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Host-pathogen interaction; Negative frequency dependent selection; Myodes glareolus; Borrelia;

    Sammanfattning : The major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class IIB genes exhibit extensive allelic polymorphism, most likely maintained by pathogen-mediated balancing selection (PMBS). PMBS may operate in the form of heterozygote advantage (HA), and/or through the interaction of pathogens and specific MHC alleles via fluctuating selection (FS) or negative frequency-dependent selection (NFDS). 5. 5. Function and Regulation of B-cell Subsets in Experimental Autoimmune Arthritis

    Författare :Anna-Karin E. Palm; Sandra Kleinau; Susanna Cardell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; B cells; marginal zone; autoimmune arthritis; spleen; lymph node; antigen presentation; Fc gamma receptor IIb; complement receptors 1 and 2; mast cells; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär immunologi; Biology with specialization in Molecular Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : B lymphocytes play a significant role in autoimmune arthritis, with their function stretching beyond autoantibody production to cytokine secretion and presentation of autoantigen. However, the involvement and activation of different B-cell subset in the autoimmune response is not fully clear. LÄS MER
