1. Movement artifact reduction in laser Doppler blood flowmetry : myocardial perfusion applications
Sammanfattning : Laser Doppler perfusion monitoring (LDPM) and imaging (LDPI) enable assessment of tissue microvascular perfusion. The techniques are based on the Doppler broadening of the optical spectrum occurring when coherent laser light is scattered by moving red blood cells (RBC). LÄS MER
2. A Study on Desulfurization of Hot Metal Using Different Agents
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with desulfurization of hot metal using different agents. The aim of this study was to improve the understanding of commonly used desulfurization agents such as fluidized CaO, CaC2, commercial-CaO, Mg, and mixtures of commercial-CaO-Mg. The possibility to use ZnO for desulfurization of hot metal was also investigated. LÄS MER
3. Measurements of High-Precision Atomic Data with Applications to Astrophysics and Cosmology
Sammanfattning : Investigations of astrophysical spectra require accurate atomic data, such as wavelengths and transition probabilities. This thesis provides high-precision atomic data for astrophysical and cosmological applications. The measurements have been carried out using Fourier transform spectrometry on light produced in a hollow cathode light source. LÄS MER
4. On the microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-Al alloys
Sammanfattning : The microstructural features and the mechanical properties of binary Mg-Al alloys have been investigated by using a gradient solidification technique. Homogeneous and nearly defect-free samples were produced under well controlled cooling conditions, through which the microstructural characteristics as well as the relationships between microstructure and mechanical properties in Mg-AI alloys were precisely defined. 5. Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry : Exploring the Limits of Different Sample Preparation Strategies
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes two different sample preparation strategies for inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES), and their ability regarding multi element quantification in complex samples. Sensitivity, repeatability, reproducibility and accuracy were investigated. LÄS MER
