  1. 1. Ecological and evolutionary assembly processes and metacommunity structure

    Författare :Mikael Pontarp; Evolutionär ekologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Community; metacommunity; phylogenetic signal; ecology; evolution; assembly process; marine bacteria; habitat filtering; competition; mathematical modeling; simulation; eco-evolutionary;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to elucidate the link between abiotic and biotic effects and biogeographical contingencies, eco-evolutionary assembly processes, and community structure in a spatially explicit metacommunity framework. To this end, we used structure analysis of naturally sampled and experimentally manipulated marine bacterial communities and mathematical eco-evolutionary modeling and simulations of metacommunity assembly. 2. 2. Factors influencing the biogeography of bacteria in fresh waters - a metacommunity approach

    Författare :Jürg Brendan Logue; Eva S. Lindström; Silke Langenheder; Lars Tranvik; Byron Crump; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bacteria; diversity; richness; community composition; dispersal; metacommunity; fresh water; biogeography; Freshwater ecology; Limnisk ekologi; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; Biologi med inriktning mot limnologi; Biology with specialization in Limnology;

    Sammanfattning : One of ecology’s primary goals is to comprehend biodiversity and its patterns of distribution over space and time. Since microorganisms play a pivotal role in key ecological processes, the diversity of microbial communities may have important implications for the stability and functioning of Earth’s ecosystems. 3. 3. Island biogeography of young land uplift islands - viewed through the lens of bryophytes in a northern Swedish archipelago

    Författare :Andreas Karlsson Tiselius; Mats Dynesius; Roland Jansson; Göran Englund; Joakim Hjältén; Tord Snäll; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; functional data analysis; metacommunity; isolation; mosses; liverworts; sporophyte production; dispersal-establishment trade-off; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany; Conservation Biology; naturvårdsbiologi; Statistics; statistik;

    Sammanfattning : Increasing habitat fragmentation and rapid global warming is changing the conditions for species populations and ecological communities around the world. This presents challenges for the maintenance of biodiversity and a dominant paradigm for conservation in fragmented habitats is given by island biogeography and metapopulation (or metacommunity) ecology. 4. 4. Species extinctions in food webs : local and regional processes

    Författare :Anna Eklöf; Bo Ebenman; Peter Münger; Marcel Holyoak; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Extinction; food web; metacommunity; dispersal; species loss; migration; habitat fragmentation; connectance; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : Loss of biodiversity is one of the most severe threats to the ecosystems of the world. The major causes behind the high population and species extinction rates are anthropogenic activities such as overharvesting of natural populations, pollution, climate change and destruction and fragmentation of natural habitats. 5. 5. Ecology of parasitoids and their hosts in oilseed rape fields

    Författare :Josef Berger; Biodiversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; parasitoids; herbivores; oilseed rape; pollen beetle; cabbage stem weevil; parasitoid community; niche separation; landscape scale; community composition; landscape configuration; Species abundance distribution SAD models; dispersal; metacommunity;

    Sammanfattning : Oilseed rape fields are a very common crop in the agricultural landscape of southern Sweden, and they can harbour surprisingly many insect species. Some of them are herbivores that feed on various parts of the oilseed rape plant, others are natural enemies of the herbivores, and even more species are tourists from the surrounding landscape.
