  1. 11. Tissue-Selective Activation and Toxicity of Substituted Dichlorobenzenes : Studies on the Mechanism of Cell Death in the Olfactory Mucosa

    Författare :Anna Franzén; Eva Brittebo; Ingvar Brandt; Olavi Pelkonen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Toxicology; tissue-selective toxicity; bioactivation; olfactory mucosa; substituted dichlorobenzenes; Bowman s glands; sustentacular cells; ER stress; Grp78; caspase-12; caspase-3; CYP2A5; protein adduction; nasal toxicity; Toxikologi; Toxicology; Toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : The nasal passages are constantly exposed to both air- and bloodborne foreign compounds. In particular, the olfactory mucosa is demonstrated to be susceptible to a variety of drugs and chemicals. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Metabolic signals in the regulation of insulin release

    Författare :Jude T. Deeney; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; insulin-secreting cells; glucose metabolism; ATP ADP ratio; cytoplasmic free Ca2 concentration; long-chain acyl-CoA; protein kinase C; insulin secretion; serotonin release; permeabilized cells; intracellular Ca2 handling; exocytosis;

    Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, an attempt was made to elucidate the role of some of the glucose-induced intracellular metabolic effector signals in insulin secretion and to develop new applications that will enable further investigations of oscillatory signalling and secretion from pancreatic ß-cells. The sequence of early metabolic and ionic events was examined in clonal pancreatic insulin secreting cells (HIT) in response to glucose stimulation. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Metabolic and Cardiovascular Responses During Variable Intensity Exercise

    Författare :Glenn Björklund; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cross-country skiing; cycling; heart rate; lactate; O2 extraction; O2 uptake; performance; ventilation; Sports; Idrott;

    Sammanfattning : Previous research investigating endurance sports from a physiological perspectivehas mainly used constant or graded exercise protocols, although the nature ofsports like cross-country skiing and road cycling leads to continuous variations inworkload. Current knowledge is thus limited as regards physiological responses tovariations in exercise intensity. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Mechanisms of hedgehog signaling activation in cancer development

    Författare :Mohammed Ferdous-Ur Rahman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : Hedgehog (HH) signaling has an important role in many physiological processes, and deregulation of this pathway can result in a wide range of malignancies. The aim of this thesis is to identify and evaluate the role of various posttranscriptional mechanisms, including alternative splicing, RNA editing and antisense RNAs, associated with different key components of HH signaling. 5. 15. Receptors for growth hormone and prolactin. Regulation and activation

    Författare :Gunnel Hellgren; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Growth hormone; GH receptor; Janus kinase; GH sensitivity; 5 -untranslated region; prolactin; prolactin receptor adipose tissue; liver; skeletal muscle; epidermal growth factor receptor; tyrosine kinase; kinase activity;

    Sammanfattning : Cytokine receptor activation is dependent on ligand-induced receptor dimerization or oligomerization and subsequent activation of several intracellular proteins. Activation of Janus kinases (Jaks) is probably the first intracellular event that occurs after receptor dimerization. LÄS MER
