Sammanfattning : Many rural village schools have closed over the years, both in Sweden and internationally, because of urbanisation, centralisation and the quest for efficiency. 2. Dialekt där den nästan inte finns : En folklingvistisk studie av dialektens sociala betydelse i ett standardspråksnära område
Sammanfattning : By approaching dialect and standard language from a folk linguistic perspective, this thesis aims to investigate how laypeople perceive, talk about and orient towards dialect and standard language in a dialect area close to the perceived linguistic and administrative centre of Sweden. It consequently focuses on dialect and standard language as socially meaningful entities, rather than as sets of linguistic features, and studies a dialect area as it is understood by those who identify with it. 3. 3-D Nautical Charts and Safe Navigation
Sammanfattning : In spite of all electronic navigation devices on a modern ship bridge, navigators still lose their orientation. Reasons for this might be excessive cognitive workload caused by too many instruments to read and compile, navigation information that is displayed in a cognitively demanding way, short decision times due to high speed or fatigue due to minimum manning and long work hours. Sammanfattning : Navigating through physical environments has evolved over time from using stars and maps to support the wayfinding, to employing Global Positioning Systems and navigation services. Turn-by-turn guidance of navigation services is an effective way to support wayfinding, but it may not align with the way humans naturally navigate. LÄS MER
5. Meeting-places of Transformation : Urban Identity, Spatial Representations and Local Politics in St Petersburg, Russia
Sammanfattning : This study develops a model for understanding spatial change and the construction of space as a meeting-place, and then employs it in order to show an otherwise little-known picture of (sub-)urban Russia and its transformation from Soviet times to today. The model is based on time-geographic ideas of time-space as a limited resource in which forces of various kinds struggle for access and form space in interaction with each other. LÄS MER
