  1. 1. Membranous Nephropathy - Challenges in diagnostics and treatment

    Författare :Jennie Lönnbro-Widgren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glomerulonephritis; Membranous nephropathy; Proteinuria; Phospholipase A2 receptor; Cancer; End-stage renal disease;

    Sammanfattning : The variability in the pathogenesis, clinical presentation and outcome of membranous nephropathy (MN) poses major clinical challenges and raises different questions, both regarding diagnostics and treatment of patients with MN. The aims of this thesis were therefore to examine: 1) differences in the glomerular expression of different IgG subclasses and phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R) between patients with idiopathic and malignancy-associated MN; 2) treatment pattern of patients with idiopathic MN; and 3) if the serum PLA2R antibody level at diagnosis can be used as a prognostic marker. 2. 2. Role of new podocyte-associated proteins in the renal ultrafiltration barrier

    Författare :Angelina Schwarz; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major health problem and an economical burden affecting people worldwide. The main causes of CKD are diabetes and hypertension and patient numbers keep increasing. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Podocyte Melanocortin 1 Receptor Mediated Signaling : A potential new target for patients with kidney diseases

    Författare :Johannes Elvin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Podocyte; Melanocortin 1 Receptor; actin cytoskeleton; nephrotic syndrome; adrenocorticotropic hormone; oxidative stress; RhoA; Kidney disease;

    Sammanfattning : Treatment of patients with nephrotic syndrome (NS) is currently unspecific and directed at ameliorating the symptoms rather than eliminating the cause. NS is actually a multitude of glomerular diseases characterized by poorly understood disease mechanisms and symptoms that include proteinuria, hypoalbuminemia and edema. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The expression of the structural proteins dendrin, Plekhh2 and Neph1 in the glomerular filtration barrier

    Författare :Jenny Hulkko; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The podocytes are injured in many acquired glomerular diseases. This may present as proteinuria or morphological changes such as foot process effacement (FPE) or loss of podocytes in the urine. The exact mechanisms are still mainly unknown. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The role of melanocortin 1 receptor in kidney disease

    Författare :Annika Lindskog Jonsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nephrotic syndrome; proteinuria; adrenocorticotropic hormone; melanocortin 1 receptor; podocytes;

    Sammanfattning : Nephrotic syndrome is a term describing a group of poorly understood glomerular diseases that are responsible for a steadily increasing number of patients requiring active uremic care. Characteristic symptoms of nephrotic syndrome are proteinuria, hypoalbuminemia, hyperlipidemia and peripheral edema, and treatment of these symptoms, rather than their cause, is currently the only option available to the clinician.
