  1. 6. Interaction of Calcium Ions with Lipid Membranes

    Författare :Baharan Ali Doosti; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phospholipid bilayer membrane; membrane dynamics; micromanipulation; calcium ions; cell migration.; membrane nanotube; membrane tubular protrusions; calcium ion concentration gradient; membrane bending; giant unilamellar vesicle;

    Sammanfattning : Bilayer membranes enclose and shield the biological cell and its inner compartments, as well as the tubular networks that exist within and between the cells. Due to their fluidic nature, the membranes are incredibly dynamic and flexible, which allows them to bend, reshape and fuse in response to mechanical and chemical stimuli within their natural microenvironments. 2. 7. Milk Membrane Lipids - Dispersions, Emulsions and Interactions with Proteins

    Författare :Rianne Waninge; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Food and drink technology; Model milk membrane lipids; Emulsions; Vesicles; Cryo-TEM; Milk fat globule membrane; MFGM; Livsmedelsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Milk is a dilute aqueous dispersion with a complex mixture of proteins, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. Milk membrane lipids are a part of the milk fat globule membrane (MFGM), which covers the fat globules. During dairy processing membrane material is released and surface structure features are altered. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Intracellular vesicles induced by monotopic membrane protein in Escherichia coli

    Författare :Hanna M. Eriksson; Åke Wieslander; Meta Kuehn; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Membrane protein; intracellular vesicles; Escherichia coli; glycosyltransferase; overexpression; optimization; detergent; screening; lipid composition; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The monotopic membrane protein alMGS, a glycosyltransferase catalyzing glucolipid synthesis in Acholeplasma laidlawii, was overexpressed in Escherichia coli. Optimization of basic growth parameters was performed, and a novel method for detergent and buffer screening using a small size-exclusion chromatography was developed. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Tethered Lipid Vesicles as Nanoscale Sensor Elements

    Författare :Seyed Tabaei; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aquaglyceroporin; lipid vesicles; total internal reflection fluorescence TIRF microscopy; cell membrane; aquaporin; pore formation; surface plasmon resonance SPR ; phospholipase A2; antiviral peptide; lipid bilayer; biosensing; microfluidics;

    Sammanfattning : The primary aim of this thesis work has been to explore and advance the potential of surface tethered lipid vesicles as a platform for studying in particular the following three biomembrane-related processes: trans-membrane transport, membrane-peptide interactions and the activity of membrane active enzymes. First, a method based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) spectroscopy was developed for studying passive diffusion processes as well as the membrane-protein mediated transport of small non electrolyte molecules across lipid bilayers. 5. 10. Membrane-Polymer Interactions in Lipid Vesicles

    Författare :Ilona Wegrzyn; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lipid nanotube; liposome; multifunctional pipette; PNIPAAm; lipid bilayer; giant unilamellar vesicle;

    Sammanfattning : Membrane related biological processes are commonly investigated in artificial biomimetic experimental systems. One of the most versatile models is based upon giant unilamellar phospholipid vesicles (liposomes), which are artificially generated spherical lipid structures in an aqueous environment. LÄS MER
