  1. 1. Ion channels and intrinsic membrane properties of locomotor network neurons in the lamprey spinal cord

    Författare :Di Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Ion channels; calcium activated non-selective cation current ICAN ; L-type LVA calcium channels Cav 1.3 ; calcium channels; calcium imaging; NMDA; postinhibitory rebound PIR ; lamprey; central pattern generator CPG ; locomotion;

    Sammanfattning : NMDA-receptor dependent membrane potential oscillations and postinhibitory rebound are examples of intrinsic membrane properties of many neurons of rhythm-generating networks, and are considered to play major roles in the operation of the spinal locomotor network of the lamprey vertebrate model. A significant feature of many lamprey spinal cord neurons is their ability to generate pacemaker-like membrane potential oscillations in the presence of the glutamate agonist NMDA. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Dopaminergic and serotonergic modulation of cellular and locomotor network properties in the lamprey spinal cord

    Författare :Martin Wikström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :5-hydroxytryptamine; Dopamine; Calcium channels; Calcium-dependent potassium channels; Afterhyperpolarization; Membrane potential oscillation; Synaptic transmission; Modulation; Central pattern generator; Locomotion; Spinal cord; Lamprey;

    Sammanfattning : Motor activity is the basis for all behavior. It is therefore important to study the processes generating movement such as the neuronal networks in the spinal cord that generates and controls locomotion. The lamprey is used as a model system for the study of locomotion. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The Oxygen Evolving cycle in Photosystem II studied with EPR Spectroscopy at different pH and Temperature

    Författare :Susan F Morvaridi; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Kemi; Chemistry; Naturvetenskap; Temperature; Natural science; pH; EPR; S cycle; Photosystem II;

    Sammanfattning : PSII catalyses the light-induced water splitting process which leads to electron transfer through the thylakoid membrane and formation of energy rich molecules. Several redox components including a Mn4Ca, an amino acid residueYZ, two special Chl molecules P680, two Pheo and two quinone molecules participate in this process. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Conductance-based principles of neuronal firing and excitability

    Författare :Hugo Zeberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The brain is an electrical organ whose activity is determined by the flow of ions across cell membranes. As such, the conductances that control the ion flux is a key to our understanding of the nervous system. Neurons process information by their ability to rapidly depolarize and fire action potentials.
