1. Property-controlling Enzymes at the Membrane Interface
Sammanfattning : Monotopic proteins represent a specialized group of membrane proteins in that they are engaged in biochemical events taking place at the membrane interface. In particular, the monotopic lipid-synthesizing enzymes are able to synthesize amphiphilic lipid products by catalyzing two biochemically distinct molecules (substrates) at the membrane interface. 2. DNA-Controlled Lipid-Membrane Fusion
Sammanfattning : Membrane fusion is essential for nerve-cell communication, for protein transport between cell organelles and the cell-membrane and for enabling the merger between virus and host membranes during virus infection. We have demonstrated that short DNA oligonucleotides, membrane-attached via CH in an orientation that mimics the overall zipperlike architecture of fusion-inducing proteins, induce fusion of both suspended vesicles and vesicles site-specifically tethered to SLBs. 3. Plasma membrane/cytoskeleton interactions in plants
Sammanfattning : The way in which the cortical cytoskeleton associates to the plasma membrane (PM) must be elucidated to understand the structural dynamics of many processes in the plant cell. In the present study, isolated cauliflower (Brassica oleracea L.) PM vesicles were used to characterize membrane/cytoskeleton interactions. LÄS MER
4. Taming the Griffin : Membrane interactions of peripheral and monotopic glycosyltransferases and dynamics of bacterial and plant lipids in bicelles
Sammanfattning : Biological membranes form a protective barrier around cells and cellular compartments. A broad range of biochemical processes occur in or at membranes demonstrating that they are not only of structural but also of functional importance. One important class of membrane proteins are membrane-associated glycosyltransferases. LÄS MER
