21. Improving Assessments of Hemodynamics and Vascular Disease
Sammanfattning : Blood vessels are more than simple pipes, passively enabling blood to pass through them. Their form and function are dynamic, changing with both aging and disease. This process involves a feedback loop wherein changes to the shape of a blood vessel affect the hemodynamics, causing yet more structural adaptation. LÄS MER
22. The Physical Axon : Modeling, Simulation and Electrode Evaluation
Sammanfattning : Electrodes are used in medicine for detection of biological signals and for stimulating tissue, e.g. in deep brain stimulation (DBS). For both applications, an understanding of the functioning of the electrode, and its interface and interaction with the target tissue involved is necessary. LÄS MER
23. Single Molecule Detection : Microfluidic Automation and Digital Quantification
Sammanfattning : Much of recent progress in medical research and diagnostics has been enabled through the advances in molecular analysis technologies, which now permit the detection and analysis of single molecules with high sensitivity and specificity. Assay sensitivity is fundamentally limited by the efficiency of the detection method used for read-out. LÄS MER
24. Data-driven microscopy: placing high-fidelity data in a population-wide context
25. Development of Techniques for Characterization, Detection and Protein Profiling of Extracellular Vesicles
Sammanfattning : Nanosized extracellular vesicles (EVs, ∼30-2000 nm) have emerged as important mediators of intercellular communication, offering opportunities for both diagnostics and therapeutics. In particular, small EVs generated from the endolysosomal pathway (∼30-150 nm), referred to as exosomes, have attracted interest as a suitable biomarker for cancer diagnostics and treatment monitoring based on minimally invasive liquid biopsies.
