21. Metabolomics studies of ALS : a multivariate search for clues about a devastating disease
Sammanfattning : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Charcot’s disease, motor neuron disease (MND) and Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a deadly, adult-onset neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive loss of upper and lower motor neurons, resulting in evolving paresis of the linked muscles. ALS is defined by classical features of the disease, but may present as a wide spectrum of phenotypes. LÄS MER
22. On evolution of intracranial changes after severe traumatic brain injury and its impact on clinical outcome
Sammanfattning : Severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI) is a cause of death and disability worldwide and requires treatment at specialized neuro-intensive care units (NICU) with a multimodal monitoring approach. The CT scan imaging supports the monitoring and diagnostics. The level of S100B and neuron specific enolase (NSE) reflects the severity of the injury. LÄS MER
23. Perinatal brain injury - markers and mediators. Non-protein-bound iron and pro-inflammatory cytokines in newborn infants and neonatal pigs
Sammanfattning : Two groups of newborn infants have an increased risk for perinatal brain injury; preterm infants and term infants subjected to birth asphyxia. Experimental studies indicate that hypoxic-ischemic insults in the perinatal period initiate a secondary neurotoxic cascade including formation of toxic reactive oxygen species as well as an inflammatory response with elevated levels of potentially neurotoxic cytokines. 24. Synergistic effects of mesenchymal stromal cells and immunotherapy in experimental brain tumors
Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and aggressive form of primary brain tumor. In spite of surgical resection, combined radiation therapy and chemotherapy, the mean survival is less than 15 months following diagnosis. LÄS MER
25. Proteomics Studies of Subjects with Alzheimer’s Disease and Chronic Pain
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease and the major cause of dementia, affecting more than 50 million people worldwide. Chronic pain is long-lasting, persistent pain that affects more than 1.5 billion of the world population. LÄS MER
