  1. 11. Injury-induced activation of vascular smooth muscle cells. Role of specific gene expression and intracellular signalling pathways

    Författare :Cecilia Lövdahl; Reumatologi och molekylär skelettbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; metalloproteinase; extracellular matrix; ERK1 2 signalling; migration; proliferation; injury; vessel wall; smooth muscle cell; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ;

    Sammanfattning : Migration and proliferation of smooth muscle cells (SMC) are important events in the development of atherosclerosis and restenosis following angioplastic surgery. It is important to gain further knowledge about the mechanisms regulating SMC form and function in order to understand the underlying disease process. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Hypoxia-induced phenotypic modulation of human neuroblastoma cells

    Författare :Linda Holmquist Mengelbier; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; reoxygenation; HIF-2a; HIF-1a; differentiation; hypoxia; neuroblastoma;

    Sammanfattning : Neuroblastoma is a childhood tumour derived from cells of the sympathetic nervous system, which are arrested at low differentiation stages. Low differentiation stage and high tumour stage correlate to poor outcome. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Transcriptional Regulation by Hypoxia-Inducible Factors in Tumor Cells

    Författare :Tobias Löfstedt; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cancerology; oncology; Biomedicinska vetenskaper; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ; Cytology; Biomedical sciences; MXI1; ID2; differentiation; HIF; hypoxia; transcription; cancer; neuroblastoma; Cytologi; onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : Cancer is a major cause of human morbidity and mortality, and the risk of developing cancer is about one in three life times. Neuroblastoma is the most common extra-cranial solid tumor among children and arises from early sympathetic nervous system (SNS) cells arrested in their development. LÄS MER

  4. 14. ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITIES OF HISTIDINE-RICH GLYCOPROTEIN AND CATIONIC PEPTIDES

    Författare :Victoria Rydengård; Lund Dermatologi och venereologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dermatologi; venereologi; venereology; Dermatology; histidine-rich glycoprotein; heparin-binding; zinc; low pH; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ; innate immunity; antimicrobial;

    Sammanfattning : In an environment full of potential pathogens it is of importance for organisms to mount a fast and effective defence. Antimicrobial peptides are ancient and integral effector molecules of the innate immune system. They are found in all kinds of species from bacteria to plants and animals, indicating their importance during evolution. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Localisation of Protein Kinase C in Apoptosis and Neurite Outgrowth

    Författare :Anna Schultz; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; onkologi; cancer; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ; Cytology; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; Prostate Cancer; Neuroblastoma; Ceramide; Golgi Apparatus; Neurite outgrowth; Apoptosis; Protein Kinase C; C1 domain;

    Sammanfattning : Protein kinase C (PKC) is a family of serine/threonine kinases, which are subgrouped into classical (a, bI, bII, g), novel (d, e, h, q) and atypical (z, i/l) isoforms. One major aim of this thesis work was to investigate if altered levels of PKC isoforms influence the apoptotic responses of malignant cell-lines. LÄS MER
