1. Single exposure phototesting and assessment of pigmented skin lesions : quantitative methods in terms of blood perfusion estimates
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the development of quantitative phototesting for the investigation of individual skin sensitivity to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, and the assessment of pigmented skin lesions (PSL) in terms of blood perfusion estimates. In both cases, laser Doppler perfusion imaging (LDPI) was used to quantify the perfusion. LÄS MER
2. Long-term effects of acupuncture
Sammanfattning : In a retrospective follow-up study, n=202, long-term pain relief (>6 months) after a course of acupuncture treatments was found mainly among patients with chronic nociceptive pain while patients with neurogenic or psychogenic pain did not benefit much. In a placebo-controlled randomised single-blind long-term study with independent observer of chronic nociceptive low back pain, n=50, it was found that acupuncture, was significantly superior to true placebo in all outcome measurements, even more than 6 months after the treatment series. 3. Coagulation disturbances in the critically ill patient with special reference to prediction of outcome
Sammanfattning : Critically ill patients in intensive care units (ICU) often have coagulation disturbances. Clinical manifestations such as thromboembolism and/or bleeding may result from activation and consumption of coagulation factors and inhibitors. Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) is a severe condition with an often-poor prognosis. LÄS MER
4. Dynamics of tuberculosis infection in Sweden
Sammanfattning : Sweden provides a special setting for epidemiological and demographic studies of tuberculosis (TB) infection over time for principally two reasons; first, the Swedish TB epidemic has undergone a tremendous transition since the end of the 19th century, when TB was highly endemic, to the current situation with practically interrupted indigenous transmission since several decades. Second, an increasing proportion of persons who grew up before TB transmission virtually disappeared in the 1960s are reaching advanced age, and thus creating conditions that predispose to reactivation of latent TB infection (LTBI). 5. Meniscus tear; Knee arthroscopy; clinical practice and sick leave
