21. Protein and Cell Interactions with Nanostructured Surfaces
Sammanfattning : A great challenge of today’s implant development is to construct a surface that promotes tissue integration and avoids bacterial colonization. To avoid implant related infections, many argue that a surface promoting strong cell adhesion and tissue integration in favour for bacterial adhesion would solve the problem, the so-called race for the surface concept. 22. Decellularized liver extracellular matrix as a 3D scaffold for bioengineering applications
Sammanfattning : The increasing global burden of end-stage liver disease has increased the need for liver transplantation, the definitive cure. However, there is a huge discrepancy between the number of available organ donors and the number of patients waiting for transplantation, resulting in the deaths of a significant number of patients on the waiting list as only 10% of the global need for transplantation is met. 23. Can Bone Void Fillers Carry Load? : Behaviour of Calcium Phosphate Cements Under Different Loading Scenarios
Sammanfattning : Calcium phosphate cements (CPCs) are used as bone void fillers and as complements to hardware in fracture fixation. The aim of this thesis was to investigate the possibilities and limitations of the CPCs’ mechanical properties, and find out if these ceramic bone cements can carry application-specific loads, alone or as part of a construct. 24. Development of Novel In Situ Microscopy Techniques for the Study of Water Interaction with Soft Materials
Sammanfattning : The transport of water in soft materials can occur in liquid or gas phase and is highly dependent on the material microstructure and the structure dynamics. Understanding these relationships is the basis for the development of predictive models that can aid the design of new and improved functional materials. LÄS MER
25. Cellulose-derived conductive nanofibrous materials for energy storage and tissue engineering applications
Sammanfattning : There is no doubt that nanofibrous materials are among the most opportune materials used in advanced applications nowadays. To supply anticipated high demand for these materials sustainable resources such as plant derived polymers should be explored. LÄS MER
