16. Reverse genetic studies of Enterovirus replication
Sammanfattning : Enteroviruses belong to the Picornaviridae family and are small icosahedral viruses with RNA genomes of positive polarity, containing a single open reading frame. They mostly cause mild or asymptomatic infections, but also a wide array of diseases including: poliomyelitis, encephalitis, gastroenteritis, aseptic meningitis, myocarditis, hand-foot-and-mouth disease, hepatitis and respiratory diseases, ranging from severe infections to the common cold. 17. Effects of polyomavirus T antigens on cellular signal transduction pathways
Sammanfattning : The early viral proteins, the tumor (T) antigens, of mouse polyomavirus, stimulate cell growth by interaction with cellular growth regulating proteins. The viral interference with cellular growth regulation may, eventually, alsoresult in effects on cellular apoptosis (programmed cell death) mechanisms. 18. Role of the 3'UTR in translation and stability of HCV and HPV mRNAs
Sammanfattning : Virus mRNAs can be divided into functional regions. The focus of this thesis will be to investigate the function of one of these regions, the 3’ untranslated region (UTR). The 3’UTR of HCV contains a U-rich element and the late 3’UTR of HPV-1 contains an AU-rich element. LÄS MER
19. Regulation of Adenoviral Gene Expression by the L4-33K and L4-22K Proteins
Sammanfattning : The splicing pattern during an adenovirus infection is shifted at the late phase towards using weaker splice sites, splicing out larger introns. Splicing of weak 3´ splice sites usually requires recognition of the 3´AG dinucleotide before the first catalytic step of splicing. LÄS MER
20. Coxsackievirus B3 Infection and Host Defence Responses Change the Metabolism of PBDE
Sammanfattning : It has been suggested that the rising amounts of chemicals in the environment may affect host resistance and increase susceptibility to infections. Studies have also shown that infections can change the toxicity of pollutants. LÄS MER
