  1. 1. Protein dynamics: aggregation and mechanical unfolding

    Författare :Simon Mitternacht; Beräkningsbiologi och biologisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisation; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Monte Carlo simulations; All-atom protein models; Mechanical unfolding; Protein aggregation;

    Sammanfattning : The subject of this thesis is protein dynamics. Papers I--IV and VI study either of two different processes: mechanical unfolding and aggregation. Paper V presents a computationally efficient all-atom model for proteins, variants of which are used to perform Monte Carlo simulations in the other papers. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Unfolding the formative phase of gasified biomass in the European Union: The role of system builders in realising the potential of second-generation transportation fuels from biomass

    Författare :Hans Hellsmark; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; technical change; second-generation transportation fuels; technology policy.; technological innovation systems; biomass gasification; system builders;

    Sammanfattning : In an era of climate change, the process of and time frame for fostering new industries with the capacity of being innovative and able to diffuse a wide range of renewable energy technologies on a large scale has become a pressing issue. In the midst of the creation of such industries are the system builders―without such actors, new technologies and industries would not emerge. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Environmental Assessment and Strategic Technology Choice : The Case of Renewable Transport Fuels

    Författare :Karl Hillman; Björn Sandén; Ken Green; Göteborg Chalmers Tekniska Högskola Miljösystemanalys Institutionen för energi och miljö; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; environmental assessment; life cycle assessment LCA ; socio-technical change; strategic technology choice; renewable fuels;

    Sammanfattning : The scale of the required changes is huge, and time is limited if we are to avoid the most severe effects of climate change. To reduce greenhouse gas emissions from road transport, several fuels and electricity originating from renewable energy sources have been proposed, all of them in different stages of development and with various and shifting environmental impacts. 4. 4. The Role of Emotion in the Interpretation of Sounds

    Författare :Penny Bergman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; auditory-induced emotions; Interpretation; psychoacoustics; Mediation analysis; Categorization; Emotion responses;

    Sammanfattning : Historically there has been a conceptual distinction between reason and passion, i.e. emotions and higher levels of cognitive processing has been viewed apart from each other and studied separately. Recent research suggest a more dynamic interaction where the emotional responses may affect several aspects of higher level cognitive functioning. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Kaikaku in production toward creating unique production systems

    Författare :Yuji Yamamoto; Monica Bellgran; Mats Johansson; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Innovation and Design; innovation och design;

    Sammanfattning : In the business environment characterized by the severe global competition and the fast-paced changes, production functions of manufacturing companies must have a capacity of undertaking not only incremental improvement, Kaizen, but also large-scale improvement that is of a radial and innovative nature here called “Kaikaku” (Kaikaku is a Japanese word meaning change or reformation).Moreover, production functions especially those located in high-wage countries must be proficient in radical innovation in production to maintain their competitive advantages.
