1. Large-Eddy Simulation of Gasoline Fuel Spray Injection at Ultra-High Injection Pressures
Sammanfattning : Gasoline direct injection is a state-of-the-art technique that reduces hydrocarbon and particulate emissions. However, further improvement is needed to meet current as well as future emission regulations. LÄS MER
2. Particulate Formation in GDI Engines
Sammanfattning : The need to comply with stringent emission regulations while improving fuel economy and reducing criteria pollutant emissions from transportation presents a major challenge in the design of gasoline Direct Injection (DI) engines because of the adverse effects of ultrafine Particulate Number (PN) emissions on human health and other environmental concerns. With upcoming advances in vehicle electrification, it may be the case that electric vehicles completely replace all current vehicles powered by internal combustion engines ensuring zero emissions. 3. Spray combustion with multiple-injection in modern engine conditions
Sammanfattning : Combustion of fuel in diesel engines emits substances harmful to the environment such as soot. These emissions can be reduced by either in-cylinder treatments or after-treatments. One of the common in-cylinder treatments is multiple-injection, which divides a single fuel injection to multiple smaller injections. LÄS MER
4. Thermal impact on rolling contact fatigue of railway wheels
Sammanfattning : Rolling contact fatigue (RCF) is a very common and costly damage mechanism for rails and wheels. This thesis investigates the influence of combined thermal and mechanical loading on RCF of railway wheels on the basis of numerical predictions. LÄS MER
5. Flow over rough surfaces, and conjugate heat transfer, in engineering applications
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on two important topics in the field of fluid mechanics and heat transfer that were treated separately. On the one hand, the flow over rough surfaces, which is not yet completely understood, despite of the fact that it has an important implication in many engineering applications, especially in the naval industry for ships and boats because the friction drag caused by fouling, antifouling coatings and roughness in general impacts the fuel consumption and toxic emissions to the atmosphere.
