16. Teleost reproduction: Aspects of Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus) oocyte growth and maturation
Sammanfattning : In all vertebrate species, reproduction is a hormonally controlled process, important for growth and maturation of gonads and germ cells. Production of functional germ cells is of outmost importance to secure the survival of a species. Fish comprises 50% of the known vertebrates and are found in aquatic habitats all over the world. 17. Growth hormone and somatolactin function during sexual maturation of female Atlantic salmon
Sammanfattning : Background and aims: The growth hormone-insulin-like growth factor I (GH-IGF-I) system is known to act during sexual maturation of female salmonids, but the specific roles are not known. Somatolactin (SL) is a pituitary hormone closely related to GH and is only found in fish. In some species, including salmonids, there are two forms, SLa and SLß. LÄS MER
18. Immune maturation and lymphocyte characteristics in relation to early gut bacteria exposure
Sammanfattning : At birth, the immune system is immature and the gut microbiota influences immune maturation. Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and lactobacilli are part of the neonatal gut microbiota and have seemingly opposite effects on the immune system. S. LÄS MER
19. Leishmania donovani lipophosphoglycan : effects on actin and phagosomal maturation
Sammanfattning : Leishmania donovani promastigotes survive intracellularly in macrophages by inhibiting phagosomal maturation. This ability is conferred by surface lipophosphoglycan (LPG), which is transferred to the host-cell plasma and phagosomal membranes during phagocytosis. LÄS MER
20. Nephrin : intracellular trafficking and podocyte maturation
Sammanfattning : Congenital nephrotic syndrome of the Finnish type, CNF, is an autossomal recessive disorder caused by mutations in the NPHS1 gene and, consequently, in its product nephrin, a 180 kDa transmembrane protein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily of adhesion molecules. In kidneys, nephrin is located exclusively to the podocyte slit diaphragm and it has a key role in organising amd maintaining the renal ultrafiltation barrier. LÄS MER
