  1. 1. Mathematical Reasoning : In physics and real-life context

    Författare :Helena Johansson; Mats Andersson; Jesper Boesen; Morten Blomhøj; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Creative mathematical reasoning; Descriptive statistics; Differential item functioning; Figurative context; Imitative reasoning; Mathematical Reasoning Requirements; Mathematics tasks; National tests; Physics tasks; Real-life context; T-test; Upper secondary school; Creative mathematical reasoning; Descriptive statistics; Differential item functioning; Figurative context; Imitative reasoning; Mathematical Reasoning Requirements; Mathematics tasks; National tests; Physics tasks; Real-life context; T-test; Upper secondary school;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is a compilation of four papers in which mathematical reasoning is examined in various contexts, in which mathematics is an integral part. It is known from previous studies that a focus on rote learning and procedural mathematical reasoning hamper students’ learning of mathematics. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Att bli matematisk : Matematisk subjektivitet och genus i lärarutbildningen för de yngre åldrarna

    Författare :Anna Palmer; Hillevi Lenz Taguchi; Nina Lykke; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; subjectivity; gender; mathematics; teacher education; performativity; materialisation; agential realism; intra-activity; aesthetic and interdisciplinary learning processes; Education; Pedagogik; pedagogik; Education;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to investigate the processes through which mathematical and gendered subjectivity is constituted, reconstituted and maintained in different situations during Early Childhood Teacher Education (ECE). In three research articles it is investigated how student teachers’ subjectivity constitutions are expressed, formulated and reformulated in different discursive and material practices. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Assessing mathematical creativity : comparing national and teacher-made tests, explaining differences and examining impact

    Författare :Jesper Boesen; Johan Lithner; Torulf Palm; Gunnar Gjone; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Students’ use of superficial reasoning seems to be a main reason for learning difficulties in mathematics. It is therefore important to investigate the reasons for this use and the components that may affect students’ mathematical reasoning development. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Mathematical Learning Disability : Cognitive Conditions, Development and Predictions

    Författare :Rickard Östergren; Ulf Träff; Joakim Samuelsson; Örjan Dahlström; Åke Olofsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Mathematical learning disability; dyscalculia; mathematical cognition; number sense; Matematiska inlärningssvårigheter; dyskalkyli; matematisk kognition; antalsuppfattning;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of the present thesis was to test and contrast hypotheses about the cognitive conditions that support the development of mathematical learning disability (MLD). Following hypotheses were tested in the thesis: a) domain general deficit, the deficit is primarily located in the domain general systems such as the working memory, b) number sense deficit, the deficit is located in the innate approximate number system (ANS), c) numerosity coding deficit, the deficit is located to a exact number representation system, d) access deficit, the deficit is in the mapping between symbols and the innate number representational system (e. 5. 5. Promoting mathematical dialogue : students’ and teachers’ listening, questioning and participation

    Författare :Marie Sjöblom; Clas Olander; Paola Valero; Despina Potari; Malmö universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Listening; mathematical dialogue; mathematics education; noticing; participation; professional development; questioning;

    Sammanfattning : In Swedish mathematics classrooms, students have different opportunities to participate in mathematical dialogue, and therefore also different opportunities to learn. This is a problem not only for students, but also for teachers, school developers, and researchers. LÄS MER
